On day two in Moscow there were no world record challengers, but a number of veterans appeared to cruise through prelims.<\/p>\n<p>With the new rule changes, Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong>, known for swimming a very rigorous World Cup schedule, raced just one event this morning. She did it in dominating fashion- clocking a 2:07.30 in the 200 IM. Four seconds behind her was\u00a0<strong>Femke Heemskerk\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands with a 2:11.42. Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emily Seebohm\u00a0<\/strong>(2:12.03) secured third.<\/p>\n<p>Hong Kong&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kenneth Ho\u00a0<\/strong>was the fastest of seven 52s in he men&#8217;s 100 IM. Ho touched in 52.11. Russia&#8217;s <strong>Sergel Fesikov<\/strong> took the second seed in 52.41, one tenth ahead of Italian\u00a0<strong>Marco Orsi\u00a0<\/strong>in 52.51.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s 200 breaststroke\u00a0<strong>Rikke Pedersen\u00a0<\/strong>of Denmark touched in 2:21.25. Picking up the second seed was Jamaican\u00a0<strong>Alia Atkinson\u00a0<\/strong>with her 2:22.07. Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Marila Temnikova\u00a0<\/strong>(2:22.77) was third this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Sjostrom cruised to a top seeded 56.07 in the women&#8217;s 100 butterfly. Atkinson finished second in 57.64 and\u00a0<strong>Franziska Hentke\u00a0<\/strong>of Germany was third with a 57.84.<\/p>\n<p>Norway&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Henrik Christiansen\u00a0<\/strong>was far faster than the field in prelims of the 400 free as he posted a 3:41.79. Finishing second was Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Wojciech Wojdak<\/strong> with a 3:45.00. Tonight&#8217;s third seed went to\u00a0<strong>Alexander Fedorov <\/strong>in 3:46.83.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#8217;s 100 freestyle\u00a0Heemskerk<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>finished in 52.33. Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cate Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>was second this morning in 52.73. With a 53.59\u00a0<strong>Federica Pellegrini\u00a0<\/strong>of Italy will return to finals in the third position.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Christian Erik Diener\u00a0<\/strong>of Germany was the quickest man in prelims of the 200 freestyle with his 1:51.88. Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Grigory Tarasevich\u00a0<\/strong>earned the second seed (1:52.56) and the third spot went to\u00a0<strong>Dmitril Maltcev\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:53.32.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Adam Barrett\u00a0<\/strong>(22.61) finished .09 ahead of Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Oleg Kostin\u00a0<\/strong>(22.70)\u00a0to lead the 50 butterfly prelims. Kostin&#8217;s\u00a0fellow countryman\u00a0<strong>Nikkita Korolev\u00a0<\/strong>(22.94) finished third.<\/p>\n<p>The top five women in the 50 backstroke were under 27 seconds.\u00a0<strong>Maaike De Waard\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands\u00a0took the top seed in 26.56. Joining her in the middle of the pool tonight will be\u00a0<strong>Maria Kameneva\u00a0<\/strong>(26.83) and Seebohm (26.90).<\/p>\n<p>Belarus&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Ilya Shymanovich\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 56.83 in the men&#8217;s 100 breaststroke prelims. Touching second was Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kirill Prigoda\u00a0<\/strong>(57.91) while\u00a0<strong>Andrei Nikolaev\u00a0<\/strong>(58.08) was third.<\/p>\n<p>While the women closed in on, and eventually broke, the 50 freestyle world record yesterday, the men were over a second off their World Standard. Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sergel Fesikov\u00a0<\/strong>(21.20) got the closest.
