A new set of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/prize-money-to-top-six-four-event-max-highlight-fina-2017-airweave-world-cup-changes\/\" target=\"_blank\">event limits<\/a> are in play. The meet is being swum in short course meters.<\/p>\n<p>The day began with the women&#8217;s 100 backstroke. Hungarian World Cup veteran\u00a0<strong>Katinka Hosszu\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 55.52, well ahead of the competition. Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emily Seebohm\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 57.89 for the second seed while the third spot went to\u00a0<strong>Maaike De Waard\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>Hosszu also had the top time in the 100 IM by another convincing margin. The World Record holder swam a 57.36. World Champion\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>actually had a faster first 50 split, ultimately touching in 58.23. Dutch swimmer\u00a0<strong>Femke Heemskerk\u00a0<\/strong>(59.86) also cracked a minute.<\/p>\n<p>In one more dominating swim, Hosszu posted a 2:02.75 to lead the 200 fly prelims. Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Franziska Hentke\u00a0<\/strong>was second in 2:06.94. Eight and a half seconds off her own world record\u00a0<strong>Mireia Belmonte\u00a0<\/strong>was third this morning with a 2:08.15.<\/p>\n<p>While Belmonte might have cruised through prelims, well off her own world record,\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo\u00a0<\/strong>was a mere .08 from her own 50 free world standard, set in 2015. The Dutch woman touched in 23.32 this morning. Sjostrom was second (23.51) and Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cate Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>(23.99) is tonight&#8217;s third seed.<\/p>\n<p>A trio of 1:44s sit atop the rankings in the men&#8217;s 200 freestyle. Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Danila Izotov\u00a0<\/strong>(1:44.12) and\u00a0<strong>Mikhail Vekovishchev\u00a0<\/strong>(1:44.79) sit first and third.\u00a0<strong>Markus Lie\u00a0<\/strong>of Norway (1:44.24) touched second this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Another Russian,\u00a0<strong>Kirill Prigoda,\u00a0<\/strong>took the top seed in the 200 breaststroke with his 2:04.95. Just three tenths behind was\u00a0<strong>Basten Caerts\u00a0<\/strong>(2:05.22) of Belgium. Belaurs&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Ilya Shymanovich\u00a0<\/strong>swam the third fastest time of the morning, a 2:05.77.<\/p>\n<p>Jamaican breaststroker\u00a0<strong>Alia Atkinson\u00a0<\/strong>posted the only sub-30 second time in the women&#8217;s 50 breaststroke with her 29.73. Poland&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Dominkia Sztandera\u00a0<\/strong>(30.18) earned the second seed. By .01\u00a0<strong>Ruta Meilutyte\u00a0<\/strong>of Lithuania (30.23) picked up the third fastest lane for finals tonight.<\/p>\n<p>Freshly minted 200 freestyle World Champion\u00a0<strong>Federica Pellegrini\u00a0<\/strong>stretched her swimming a bit further to a top seed in the 400 freestyle. The Italian finished prelims with a time of 4:03.15. Spaniard<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Belmonte<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>is on her heels in 4:03.49.\u00a0<strong>Anna Egorova\u00a0<\/strong>was third this morning with a 4:06.72.<\/p>\n<p>In 23.65 Belaurs&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Viktar Staselovich\u00a0<\/strong>earned the middle lane for tonight&#8217;s men&#8217;s 50 backstroke final. Germany&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Christian Erik Diener\u00a0<\/strong>out touched\u00a0<strong>Mark Nikolaev\u00a0<\/strong>23.72 to 23.73 for the second fastest time.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matteo Rivolta\u00a0<\/strong>(50.54) was first to the wall in the 100 fly.
