COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, April 13. USA Swimming today announced that Bryce Elser (Huntington Beach. Calif.) will join the National Team division at the National Governing Body headquarters as its Open Water Program Manager.<\/p>\n
As the Open Water Program Manager, Elser, who has been heavily involved in the aquatics community as both a coach and an athlete, will plan and coordinate all aspects of the open water program, supporting Open Water National Team coaches and athletes. He will also help coordinate the planning and logistics of National Team Open Water camps and competitions and serve as the staff liaison to the USA Swimming Open Water Steering Committee<\/p>\n
Elser brings over eight years of ocean safety experience to the Open Water Program Manager position, having worked with the City of Huntington Beach Marine Safety Division since 2002. As an ocean lifeguard, Elser responded to emergency situations in the ocean area and also worked as a junior lifeguard instructor. In that role, Elser educated junior lifeguards about Ocean Safety, First Aid and CPR. He help trained new recruits and worked to ensure the safety at all ocean events involved with the Junior Lifeguard Program.<\/p>\n
For the past three years, Elser served as the head swim coach at Huntington Beach High School in Huntington Beach, Calif. In addition to his coaching experience, he also acted as a program coordinator for the Orange County YMCA in 2009.<\/p>\n
A graduate of the University of Southern California, Elser swam on the USC Swim Team where he helped guide the Trojans to three consecutive top-ten NCAA Championships. He served as the men's team captain from 2006-2008, was a NCAA Division 1 All-American and a 2008 Olympic Trials qualifier.<\/p>\n
Elser will join the USA Swimming staff on May 23 and will report to the National Team Director, Frank Busch.<\/p>\n
