ANN ARBOR, Michigan, April 10. THE Eric Namesnik Grand Prix came to a close in Ann Arbor, Mich., with a few more strong efforts.<\/p>\n
FAST's Tyler Clary dominated the men's 200 back with a 1:56.61. That swim smashed the previous pool record of 2:00.88 set by Tobias Oriwol back in 2001, and shot Clary up to third in the world rankings in the event. Only Ryosuke Irie (1:54.08) and Zhang Fenlin (1:56.34) have been faster this year. Daytona Beach's Ryan Lochte finished second din 2:00.21, while FAST's Robert Margalis took third in 2:02.29. <\/p>\n
Trojan's Ous Mellouli touched out NBAC's Michael Phelps, 1:59.42 to 1:59.63, in the men's 200 IM. Both times cleared Thiago Pereira's pool record of 2:00.05 set during prelims before Pereira scratched this evening. Clary finished third overall in 2:00.50. Mellouli moved up to a fifth-ranked tie with Mitch Larkin, while Phelps has been much faster with a top-ranked season-best time of 1:56.88.<\/p>\n
FAST's Ariana Kukors cruised to victory in the women's 200 IM with a sixth-ranked time of 2:11.24. California's Caitlin Leverenz earned second in 2:12.80, while PASA's Jasmine Tosky took third in 2:13.70. Leverenz moved into the top 10 in the rankings with her performance. <\/p>\n
FAST's Katie Hoff lowered the pool record in the women's 800 free with a winning time of 8:35.51. That swim beat the 8:35.78 set by Flavia Rigamonti back in 2003. Gator's Andreina Pinto touched second in 8:37.44, while FAST's Emily Brunemann earned third in 8:44.36. <\/p>\n
SMU's Therese Svendsen captured the women's 200 back title in 2:13.08. Crow Canyon's Madison White, 16, touched second in 2:14.11, while teammate Sidney Cooke, 15, finished third in 2:16.98. <\/p>\n
California's Dana Vollmer won the women's 100 free in 54.52, while teammate Natalie Coughlin finished second in 54.93. The two cleared Coughlin's prelim pool record of 55.02. FAST's Kara Lynn Joyce earned third-place honors in 55.14. Vollmer has already clocked an eighth-ranked season best of 54.36 from last month.<\/p>\n
Brazil's Cesar Cielo snatched the men's 100 free title in 49.12, downing his prelim pool record of 50.01. Phelps finished runner-up for the second time this evening with a 49.48, while Brazil's Nicholas Santos earned third in 50.10. Notably, Brazil's Bruno Fratus clocked a 49.84 to win the B final.<\/p>\n
Germantown's Arthur Frayler won the men's 1500 free in 15:18.56, while FAST's Michael Klueh placed second in 15:24.63. Delaware's Andrew Gemmell earned third in 15:28.87. <\/p>\n
In relay action, T2 Aquatics' Katharine Anton, Haley Fournier, Anne-marie Botek and Erike Erndl won the women's 400 medley relay in 4:19.51.
