Manuel, of the United States, finished second in the heat at 24.54 and fourth overall to advance to the semis.<\/p>\n<p>Denmark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Pernille Blume<\/strong>, who edged out Manuel for Olympic gold last summer and took bronze in the 100 free, qualified second in 24.32, and 2012 Olympic gold medalist\u00a0<strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo\u00a0<\/strong>took third for the Netherlands in 24.53. Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bronte Campbell<\/strong>, the 2015 World Champion, qualified fifth in 24.61.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Michelle Toro\u00a0<\/strong>ended up sixth with her time of 24.64, followed by China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zhu Menghui<\/strong> (24.64), France&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Anna Santamans\u00a0<\/strong>(24.71) and a tie between Egypt&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Farida Osman<\/strong> and China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Liu Xiang<\/strong> at 24.78.
