The action really heated up on Tuesday night with three world records. <strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong>, <strong>Kylie Masse<\/strong> and <strong>Lilly King<\/strong> all broke world records in Budapest in their respective events. Peaty lowered his 50 breast from this morning while Masse and King finally broke through and got their world records that they have been knocking on the door for the last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sun Yang<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Xu Jiayu<\/strong> also picked up gold medals in their events in the pool.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2017-fina-world-championships-day-3-finals-heat-sheets-day-3-international-elite-2017-07-23.pdf\">Heat Sheets<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2017-fina-world-championships-day-3-finals-results-day-3-international-elite-2017-07-25.pdf\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tonight&#8217;s Events:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 200 Free<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 1500 Free<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 50 Breast (SF)<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 100 Back<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 100 Back<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 200 Free (SF)<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 200 Fly (SF)<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 100 Breast<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Free<\/h3>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s 200 free final,\u00a0<strong>Sun Yang<\/strong>\u00a0of China won his first World Title in the 200 with a 1:44.39 to out pace the field over the second half. Sun ran away from the field to have the fastest last 50 in the field with a 26.94. American<strong>\u00a0Townley Haas<\/strong>\u00a0finished in second for his first individual medal in a major competition with a 1:45.04 for silver. Russian\u00a0<strong>Alexandr Krasnykh<\/strong>\u00a0won the bronze medal with a 1:45.23.<\/p>\n<p>One of the surprises of the meet was the British duo of\u00a0<strong>Duncan Scott<\/strong>\u00a0(1:45.27) and\u00a0<strong>James Guy<\/strong>\u00a0(1:45.36) finishing off the medals stand in fourth and fifth. They will still be tough to beat in the 4&#215;200 free relay later in the week.<\/p>\n<p>Hungarian\u00a0<strong>Dominik Kozma<\/strong>\u00a0(1:45.54), Russian\u00a0<strong>Mikhail Dovgalyuk<\/strong>\u00a0(1:46.02) and Korean\u00a0<strong>Park Tae Hwan<\/strong>\u00a0(1:47.11) also competed in the A-final.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first World Title for China in the men&#8217;s 200 free at the World Championships. Ledecky led the race from start to finish for her third straight world title in the 1500 with a 15:31.82, a little off her 15:25 world record from 2015. Ledecky will be in action later on in the session in the 200 free semi-final.<\/p>\n<p>The gold medal is Ledecky&#8217;s 12th overall World Championship gold medal, the most of all-time for a woman, breaking a tie with fellow American\u00a0<strong>Missy Franklin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mireia Belmonte Garcia<\/strong>\u00a0won the silver medal with a 15:50.89 ahead of Italian\u00a0<strong>Simona Quadarella<\/strong>\u00a0in bronze with a 15:53.86.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Boglarka Kapas\u00a0<\/strong>(16:06.27), China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hou Yawen\u00a0<\/strong>(16:08.10), Chile&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kristel Kobrich\u00a0<\/strong>(16:13.46), Liechtenstein&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Julia Hassler\u00a0<\/strong>(16:14.86) and\u00a0Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ajna Kesely\u00a0<\/strong>(16:22.87) also competed in the A-final.<\/p>\n<p>The win is the fifth in the women&#8217;s 1500 at the World Championships for the United States. Peaty broke his world record from 26.10 this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty will lead a field of seven 26&#8217;s into tomorrow&#8217;s final. Canadian\u00a0<strong>Kylie Masse<\/strong>\u00a0finally got under the women&#8217;s 100 back world record, a record that so many had gotten close to, but no one had gotten under. Masse swam a 58.10 to get under\u00a0<strong>Gemma Spofforth&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0world record of 58.12 from 2009. It is Canada&#8217;s first world record in the women&#8217;s 100 back since 1974 when\u00a0<strong>Wendy Cook<\/strong>\u00a0held the record for a short period.<\/p>\n<p>Masse beat American\u00a0<strong>Kathleen Baker<\/strong>\u00a0who finished second at 58.58 for her first World Championship medal. China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Xu Jiayu<\/strong>\u00a0was expected to give\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a051.85 a run but ultimately Xu fell short in the final with a 52.44 for the gold.<\/p>\n<p>Xu got some serious pressure from Americans Murphy and\u00a0<strong>Matt Grevers<\/strong>\u00a0but the Chinese man held them off barely. Grevers won the silver medal with a 52.48 ahead of Murphy&#8217;s 52.59. Xu wins his first World Championship gold while Grevers wins his third straight medal in the 100 back at the World Championships. Ledecky went 1:54.69 less than an hour after she won the gold medal in the 1500. Ledecky leads a quick final ahead of Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emma McKeon<\/strong>\u00a0(1:54.99) and Russia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Veronika Popova<\/strong>\u00a0(1:55.08).<\/p>\n<p>McKeon is having herself quite a meet after she won the silver in the 100 fly in a new Australian record and anchored the 4&#215;100 free relay silver medal team with a 52.20 anchor split. Can McKeon do the unthinkable and chase down Ledecky?<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Federica Pellegrini<\/strong>\u00a0(1:55.58) has the fourth seed into Wednesday&#8217;s final as she looks for her sixth straight medal in the 200 at the World Championships. Tonight&#8217;s 100 breast swim was one of the most anticipated events of the schedule as King went head-to-head with Russian rival\u00a0<strong>Yulia Efimova.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Efimova neared the world record .01 seconds in semi-finals, but it was King who would take gold and the world record.\u00a0King delivered a sizzling time of 1:04.13 to finish well ahead of the previous 1:04.35, set in 2013 by Meilutyte.<\/p>\n<p>Comparative splits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>King (2017): 29.80, 34.33 = 1:04.13<\/li>\n<li>Meilutyte (2013): 29.97, 34.38 = 1:04.35<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>King&#8217;s new record makes her the third American in the last decade to etch her name in the 100 breast world record book, joining the likes of\u00a0<strong>Jessica Hardy<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Rebecca Soni<\/strong>. Her world record also doubles as a new American Record.<\/p>\n<p>King&#8217;s gold is the fourth American gold medal at the World Championships in the 100 breast joining\u00a0<strong>Kristy Kowal<\/strong>\u00a0(1998) and Soni (2009, 2011).<\/p>\n<p>Fellow American\u00a0<strong>Katie Meili<\/strong>\u00a0snuck her way into second place with a swift time of 1:05.03, a personal best for Meili, while Efimova sunk to third and a final time of 1:05.05. Efimova gets her fourth 100 breast World&#8217;s medal dating all the way back to her silver in 2009.
