Matthews&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Sophie Lindner\u00a0<\/strong>has also give her verbal commitment to the Tarheel State&#8217;s flagship university, making two in-state verbal commitments for Carolina&#8217;s women&#8217;s Class of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Lindner is a rising senior at Covenant Day School and at SwimMAC Carolina. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American was a 2016 Olympic Trials qualifier.<\/p>\n<p>Her best times are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100 Fly 54.27<\/li>\n<li>100 Back 55.14<\/li>\n<li>200 Back 1:58.70<\/li>\n<li>100 Free 50.42<\/li>\n<li>200 Free 1:48.44<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>She said on her CollegeSwimming profile,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I chose UNC because of the amazing coaches and team, as well as the stellar academics.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/relay-depth-propels-swimmac-girls-to-lead-after-night-one-at-junior-nationals-east\/\" target=\"_blank\">2016 Junior Nationals East<\/a> Lindner was on SwimMac&#8217;s winning 200 medley relay and third place 800 freestyle relay on the first night of competition.<\/p>\n<p>As a sophomore at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ravenscroft-girls-charlotte-latin-boys-claim-ncisaa-3a-titles\/\" target=\"_blank\">2016 North Carolina Independent Schools 3A<\/a> high school state championships Lindner touched second in the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly (55.54). At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/cary-academys-depth-upsets-ravenscrofts-quest-for-fifth-straight-ncisaa-3a-state-crown\/\" target=\"_blank\">the 2017 meet<\/a> Lindner out touched the 2016 100 fly champion to claim gold (55.30).
