Throughout the remainder of the World Championships Swimming World will be providing updates of the national records that tumble down.<\/p>\n<h1>Men&#8217;s 50 Breast<\/h1>\n<p>An astounding 28 countries set national records during the preliminary heats of the men&#8217;s 50 breast.<\/p>\n<h3>Great Britain<\/h3>\n<p>Unsurprisingly,\u00a0<strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> sprinted well ahead of the competition in the 50 breast. Peaty scorched the competition with a 26.10, which not only set a new British Record, but also a World and Championship Record. He previously held the WR at a 26.42 set during the 2015 World Championships in Kazan.<\/p>\n<p>He returns as the top seed for the men&#8217;s 50 breast semi-finals.<\/p>\n<h3>South Africa \/ African<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Cameron van der Burgh<\/strong> posted a new South African record of 26.54, a time that doubles as a new African record for the entire continent. Van der Burgh&#8217;s previous S.A. record was a 26.62 from the 2015 World Championships in Kazan.<\/p>\n<p>He returns as the second place seed for the men&#8217;s 50 breast semi-finals.<\/p>\n<h3>Brazil<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Joao Gomes Junior<\/strong> established a new Brazilian record in prelims of the 50 breast, posting a final time of 26.67. That takes down\u00a0<strong>Felipe Silva&#8217;s<\/strong> record of 26.76 and also establishes a new South American record.<\/p>\n<p>He returns as the number three seed for semi-finals.<\/p>\n<h3>Russia<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Kirill Prigoda<\/strong> continued his record-breaking ways with a new 50 breast national record, delivering a 26.91 in prelims. His time takes down\u00a0<strong>Andrey Nikolaev&#8217;s<\/strong> 27.14 from 2016 and makes him the first Russian to finish under 27 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>He returns as the fifth place seed for semi-finals.<\/p>\n<h3>Belarus<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Ilya Shymanovich<\/strong> added the 50 breast Belarusian National Record to his name with a final time of 27.01. The previous record was a 27.61 set by\u00a0<strong>Yury Klemparski<\/strong> in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>He returns as the seventh place seed for semi-finals.<\/p>\n<h3>Japan \/ Asian<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Yasuhiro Koseki<\/strong> improved upon his own Japanese National Record in the men&#8217;s 50 breast with a preliminary showing of 27.21. Koseki&#8217;s previous record was a 27.23 from the 2017 Japanese Championships. His new record of 27.21 doubles as an Asian Record.<\/p>\n<p>He returns as the number 10 seed for semi-finals of the 50 breast.<\/p>\n<h3>China<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Yan Zibei<\/strong> bettered his own\u00a0Chinese National Record of 27.34 with a 27.25 showing in prelims. His previous record was posted at the 2017 Chinese National Championships.<\/p>\n<p>He returns as the number 12 seed for semi-finals of the 50 breast.<\/p>\n<h3>Croatia<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Nikolva Obrovac<\/strong> turned in a new Croatian National Record of 27.61 to become the first man under 28 seconds. The previous record was set by\u00a0<strong>Vanja Rogulj<\/strong> at a 28.08 in 2003.<\/p>\n<h3>Egypt<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Youssef Elkamash<\/strong> became the first Egyptian man to post a 50 breast time beneath 28 seconds, delivering a 27.79. Tibatemwa<\/strong> (32.77)<\/li>\n<li>Swaziland &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Simanga Dlamini<\/strong> (33.07)<\/li>\n<li>Sierra Leone &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Moris Beale<\/strong> (35.13)<\/li>\n<li>Tajikistan &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Ramziyor Khorkashov<\/strong> (35.52)<\/li>\n<li>Benin &#8211;\u00a0<strong>Ablam Awoussou<\/strong> (36.34)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Women&#8217;s 200 Free<\/h1>\n<p>Four\u00a0countries posted new national records in prelims of the women&#8217;s 200 free.<\/p>\n<h3>Hong Kong<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Siobhan Haughey<\/strong> slashed her own national record in prelims with a 1:56.62 showing. Previously she had set the record at a 1:56.91 while swimming at the 2016 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>She returns for tonight&#8217;s semi-finals as the number five seed.<\/p>\n<h3>Portugal<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Diana Duraes<\/strong> took down her own Portuguese National Record with a final time of 2:01.48. This past February she had posted a 2:01.78 for the record.<\/p>\n<h3>Tanzania<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Sonia Tumiotto<\/strong> lowered the\u00a0Tanzanian National Record in prelims of the 200 free, stopping the clock at a 2:11.01. The previous record was held by\u00a0<strong>Sonia Franco<\/strong> at a 2:14.18.<\/p>\n<h3>Palau<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Osisang Dibech Chilton<\/strong> edged past the previous Palauan National Record in prelims of the women&#8217;s 200 free, posting a time of 2:25.83. Her time takes down the previous record of 2:26.87, set in 2015 by\u00a0<strong>Dirngulbai Misech<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h1>Men&#8217;s 200 Fly<\/h1>\n<p>Seven countries established new national records in prelims of the men&#8217;s 200 fly.<\/p>\n<h3>Bulgaria<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Antani Ivanov<\/strong> took down the Bulgarian National Record by more than a second and a half, stopping the clock in prelims with a final time of 1:55.55. Ivanov owned the\u00a0previous record with a 1:57.11 set at the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n<p>He returns as the fourth place seed for tonight&#8217;s semi-finals.<\/p>\n<h3>Colombia<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Jonathan Gomez<\/strong> etched past\u00a0his own Colombian National Record of 1:56.65 with a 1:56.60. His previous record was posted in the prelims heats of the 200 fly at the 2016 Olympic games. Gomez&#8217;s time in prelims qualified him for the semi-finals of the 200 fly as the 14th place seed.<\/p>\n<h3>Switzerland<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Nils Liess<\/strong> continued to strike away at the men&#8217;s 200 fly Swiss National Record, lowering his previous record of 1:58.02 down to a 1:57.96. His previous record was posted at the 2016 Sette Colli meet.<\/p>\n<h3>Lithuania<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Deividas Margevicius<\/strong> edged closer to the two-minute mark in the men&#8217;s 200 fly, turning in a new Lithuanian National Record of 2:00.63. He had set the previous national record at a 2:01.17 at the 2017 Romanian Swimming Championships.<\/p>\n<h3>Syria<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Ayman Kelzie<\/strong> slashed one and a half seconds off his Syrian National Record of 2:02.97, stopping the clock at a new record of 2:01.44.<\/p>\n<h3>Jamaica<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Michael James Gunning<\/strong> finished well under the previous Jamaican National Record of 2:06.72 in prelims of the men&#8217;s 200 fly. Gunning stopped the clock at a final time of 2:01.73, tearing down an 11-year-old record that was posted in 2006 by\u00a0<strong>Brad Hamilton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Guam<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Luis Carlos Martinez<\/strong> established a new Guamanian National Record by more than ten seconds in prelims of the men&#8217;s 200 fly. Martinez posted a final time of 2:03.10 to finish well below the previous record of 2:13.46. The previous record had stood since\u00a0<strong>Ken Barcinas<\/strong> posted it in 2010.<\/p>\n<h1>Men&#8217;s 800 Free<\/h1>\n<p>Prelims of the men&#8217;s 800 free saw four\u00a0different countries establishing new national records.<\/p>\n<h3>Austria<\/h3>\n<p>The most notable of the national records coming out of the men&#8217;s 800 free was\u00a0<strong>Felix Aubock&#8217;s<\/strong> Austrian record. Aubock lowered the previous record of 7:55.97 to a sizzling 7:49.24. The previous record was set in 2009 by\u00a0<strong>Florian Janistyn.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Aubock&#8217;s time was the fourth fastest of the preliminary heats and qualifies him for tomorrow night&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<h3>Sweden<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Victor Johansson\u00a0<\/strong>tore down his own Swedish National Record in prelims with a 7:52.66. He had previously held the record at a time of 8:01.63 from the 2016 European Championships.<\/p>\n<h3>El Salvador<\/h3>\n<p>Similar to Johansson,\u00a0<strong>Marcela Acosta<\/strong> successfully lowered his own national record and became the first Salvadorian man to post a time beneath the eight minute mark. Acosta took down his record of 8:00.85, which was established last summer at the 2016 Olympic Games, and posted a new record of 7:55.70.<\/p>\n<h3>Cyprus<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Constantinos Hadjittooulis<\/strong> etched his name into the record books of Cyprus with a new Cypriot record of 8:23.30 in the 800 free.
