Great Britain picked up another gold on the night with <strong>Ben Proud<\/strong> in the 50 fly.<\/p>\n<p>Americans picked up medals from <strong>Kevin Cordes<\/strong> (silver) in the 100 breast, <strong>Kelsi Worrell<\/strong> (bronze) in the 100 fly and <strong>Madisyn Cox<\/strong> (bronze) in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2017-fina-world-championships-day-2-finals-results-day-2-international-elite-2017-07-24.pdf\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Breast<\/h3>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t a world record, but Brit\u00a0<strong>Adam Peaty\u00a0<\/strong>repeated his World Championship gold from 2015 on Monday night in Budapest at the FINA World Championships. Peaty won the race with a 57.47 and a championship record. Peaty was just shy of his 57.13 world record from last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kevin Cordes\u00a0<\/strong>picked up a silver in the race with a 58.79 and Russian\u00a0<strong>Kirill Prigoda\u00a0<\/strong>was third at 59.05. Prigoda&#8217;s time was a Russian national record.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yasuhiro Koseki\u00a0<\/strong>(59.10), USA&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cody Miller\u00a0<\/strong>(59.11), Lithuania&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrius Sidlauskas\u00a0<\/strong>(59.21),\u00a0China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yan Zibei\u00a0<\/strong>(59.42) and Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ross Murdoch\u00a0<\/strong>(59.45) also swam in the championship final.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty&#8217;s win is the third gold medal for Britain in the 100 breast at the World Championships. Sjostrom just missed the record as she went 55.53 to break the championship record, but missed her best time of 55.48.<\/p>\n<p>She got some pressure from either side of her as Australian\u00a0<strong>Emma McKeon\u00a0<\/strong>(56.18) and American\u00a0<strong>Kelsi Worrell\u00a0<\/strong>(56.37) pushed her the whole race. Xu was out under world record pace and let up over the last few meters in his swim. Kolesnikov lowered his own world junior record that was a 53.65 from July 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Kolesnikov beat China&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Li Guangyuan<\/strong>\u00a0who was a 53.70. The two tied for ninth at 53.84. Kolesnikov won&#8217;t swim in tomorrow&#8217;s final but his 53.38 would have been seventh in the semi-finals. Efimova got oh-so-close to\u00a0<strong>Ruta Meilutyte&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0world record of 1:04.35 with a 1:04.36. Efimova leads Olympic champion\u00a0<strong>Lilly King<\/strong>, who was second at 1:04.53. The two will clash heads in a much anticipated rematch after last summer&#8217;s epic duel in Rio.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t take your eyes off of world record holder Meilutyte who is third at 1:05.06. Proud went 22.75 to win the gold medal in the 50 fly to just miss the championship record of 22.67 from\u00a0<strong>Milorad Cavic\u00a0<\/strong>set in 2009. Proud wins his first individual medal at either the Olympics or World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nicholas Santos<\/strong>\u00a0(22.79) and Ukraine&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrii Govorov<\/strong>\u00a0(22.84) also picked up individual medals in the race. World records keep getting rattled but not broken.\u00a0<strong>Kylie Masse<\/strong>\u00a0got oh-so-close to the 100 back record with a 58.18. She just missed\u00a0<strong>Gemma Spofforth&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0record of 58.12 from 2009. Masse broke her Canadian record from earlier this year that was a 58.21.<\/p>\n<p>Masse leads a quality final that includes the defending world champion\u00a0<strong>Emily Seebohm<\/strong>\u00a0of Australia. Guy was second at 1:45.18. The two Brits lead reigning Olympic champ\u00a0<strong>Sun Yang<\/strong>\u00a0of China (1:45.24) and\u00a0<strong>Townley Haas<\/strong>\u00a0of the US (1:45.43).<\/p>\n<p>It is a very fast 200 free final as eighth place was 1:46.28, with seven of the finalists turning in 1:45&#8217;s in the semi&#8217;s. Hosszu gave her home fans something to cheer about as she went 2:07.00 to win the world title ahead of Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yui Ohashi<\/strong>\u00a0(2:07.91). Hosszu led from start to finish in the race ahead of Ohashi.<\/p>\n<p>American\u00a0<strong>Madisyn Cox<\/strong>\u00a0had a late charge over the second half to snag the bronze medal with a 2:09.71. Cox stated in her NBC interview after the race that she channeled the Hungarian cheers for herself and pretended they were cheering for her, spurring her onto the bronze medal.<\/p>\n<p>American\u00a0<strong>Melanie Margalis<\/strong>\u00a0(2:09.82), Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Runa Imai<\/strong>\u00a0(2:09.99), South Korea&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kim Seoyeong<\/strong>\u00a0(2:10.40) and Great Britain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Siobhan O&#8217;Connor<\/strong>\u00a0(2:10.41) also competed in the A-final.<\/p>\n<p>The big question in the race was Canadian\u00a0<strong>Sydney Pickrem<\/strong>, who was a medal favorite, getting out of the pool after the 50.\u00a0<em>Swimming World\u00a0<\/em>will update if we find more information.<\/p>\n<p>This is Hosszu&#8217;s third straight World Title in the 200 IM and her fourth medal in the event in the World Championships.
