AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, March 12. THE long course meter Amsterdam Swim Cup continued to produce some electric swims in The Netherlands. <\/p>\n
After posting the top two times in the world in prelims with a 24.67 and 24.87, respectively, Ranomi Kromowidjojo (24.61) and Inge Dekker (24.89) finished first and third in the women's 50 free finale with Kromowidjojo bettering her world-best time. Marleen Veldhuis picked up second at night with a 24.83 to move to second in the world rankings, pushing Dekker to third. Sarah Sjostrom placed fourth in 25.20 for a top 10 time as well.<\/p>\n
Jennie Johansson topped the world rankings in the women's 50 breast with a winning time of 31.23. That effort cleared the 31.25 set by Moniek Nijhuis in January. Nijhuis settled for second tonight in 31.75, while Tessa Brouwer claimed third in 32.38. <\/p>\n
Femke Heemskerk moved to the top of the world rankings in the women's 200 free with a sterling 1:56.61. She beat the 1:56.63 set by Camille Muffat in Nice in February. Sarah Sjostrom took second in 1:56.91 for third in the world, while Cecilie Johannessen placed third in 2:00.32. <\/p>\n
Sebastiaan Verschuren ripped off a 48.99 in the men's 100 free, joining Michael Phelps (48.89) as the only sub-49 swimmers so far this year. Stefan Nystrand took second in 49.61, while Konrad Czerniak earned third in 50.20. <\/p>\n
Nick Driebergen moved up to seventh in the world rankings in the men's 200 back with a pair of sub-2:00 today. First, he clocked a season-best time of 1:59.37 during prelims before winning the title in 1:59.24. Sebastian Stoss took second in 2:00.89, while Mattias Carlsson placed third in 2:04.32. <\/p>\n
Czerniak won the men's 50 fly in 24.19 to take eighth in the world rankings, while Joeri Verlinden placed second in 24.23 after clocking a seventh-ranked 24.14 during prelims. Tim van Deutekom earned third in 25.01. Martin Granstrom pushed into eighth in the women's 200 fly with a 2:10.56. Sophie De Ronchi (2:16.78) and Jessica Spruit (2:19.19) wound up second and third. <\/p>\n
Hinkelien Schreuder clocked a top 15 time in the women's 50 back with a 28.91 for the win. Willemijn Knot finished second in 29.87, while Maaike de Waard grabbed third in 29.91. Lennart Stekelenburg also moved into the top 15 with a 2:13.38 in the men's 200 breast. Lauren Carnol took second in 2:14.88, while Igor Kozlovskij snagged third in 2:17.48. <\/p>\n
Lieke Verouden downed the Dutch record in the women's 400 IM with a 4:47.47. That swim eclipsed the 4:48.19 set by Sharon van Rouwendaal back at the 2008 French Championships. Judith Stap touched second this evening in 4:58.50, while Jolien Vermeylen picked up third in 5:00.82. <\/p>\n
Martina Rita Caramignoli claimed the women's 1500 free in 16:41.69, while Linsy Heister took second in 16:59.73. Jolien Vermeylen wound up third in 17:26.61.
