{"id":267462,"date":"2017-07-23T03:22:42","date_gmt":"2017-07-23T10:22:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=267462"},"modified":"2017-07-23T05:14:58","modified_gmt":"2017-07-23T12:14:58","slug":"brazil-tops-mens-400-free-relay-prelims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/brazil-tops-mens-400-free-relay-prelims\/","title":{"rendered":"Brazil Tops Men&#8217;s 400 Free Relay Prelims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brazil edged out Australia in the first heat of the men&#8217;s 400 free relay at the FINA World Championships and ended up holding on to secure the No. 1 seed for the final.\u00a0<strong>Gabriel Santos<\/strong> (48.84),\u00a0<strong>Marcelo Chierighini<\/strong> (47.75),\u00a0<strong>Cesar Cielo<\/strong> (48.15) and\u00a0<strong>Bruno Fratus\u00a0<\/strong>(47.60) combined to touch in 3:12.34.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cameron McEvoy<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Zac Incerti<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Alexander Graham<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Jack Cartwright\u00a0<\/strong>qualified second in 3:12.45, and the United States finished third in 3:12.90.\u00a0<strong>Blake Pieroni<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Michael Chadwick<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Zach Apple\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Townley Haas\u00a0<\/strong>swam on the American squad, and Pieroni and Haas appear likely to join\u00a0<strong>Nathan Adrian\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> on the finals squad.<\/p>\n<p>Italy qualified fourth in 3:12.26, and also making the final were Hungary (3:13.28), Russia (3:13.84), Japan (3:14.82) and Canada (3:14.88).<\/p>\n<h3>Swimming World Radio<\/h3>\n<p>The American men stopped by the mixed zone and shared their thoughts on the morning swim.
