BELLEVUE, Washington, March 12. THE Washington Boys High School State Championships took place February 18-19 at Newport High School.<\/p>\n
2A Results
\nArchbishop Murphy’s Alec Barnard and Sehome’s Austin Fish each doubled with individual wins. Barnard won the 200 free (1:43.17) and 100 fly (51.47), setting meet records in both. Fish, meanwhile, took the 200 IM (1:55.4) and 100 back (52.25) and swam on Sehome’s victorious 400 free relay. Casey Klipsch, Curran Wilbour, Andy Small, and Fish combined to win the relay in a meet record time of 3:16.22.<\/p>\n
Interlake’s Alex Rockwell took the win in the 50 free (22.13), while teammate Eldon Cummings won the 100 free in a meet record of 48.33. Cummings, Rockwell, Victor Hsiao, and Yuji Nelson won the 200 medley relay for Interlake in a meet record 1:37.35. Renton’s Steve Sholdra set a meet record of 4:35.66 to win the 500 free, and Squalicum’s Gus Evans took the 100 breast (59.62). Pullman won the 200 free relay in a meet record of 1:30.28, with Ian McInturff, Yihao Jiang, Daniel Hawbaker, and Christopher Li on the team. Port Angeles’ Austin Fahrenholz won one meter diving in a meet record total of 376.10 points.<\/p>\n
Sehome won a tight victory over Interlake, 106 points to 98, with Pullman scoring 53 to round out the top three.<\/p>\n

\nEastside Catholic’s Ethan Hallowell swept to victory in both the 100 (44.75) and 200 free. He clocked 1:38.18 in the 200 to set a new meet record and finish about one second behind Nathan Adrian’s state record of 1:37.17 from 2006. Kennedy’s Thane Maudslein also doubled, winning both the 100 fly (50.20) and 100 back (50.30). Mercer Island’s Jimmy Deiparine won the 100 breast (57.81) and joined with teammates Andy Wingerson, Daniel Simons, and Marco Signorelli to take first in the 200 medley relay (1:36.06).<\/p>\n
Seattle Prep’s Michael Rochford took the 200 IM (1:53.33), while Shorewood’s Mackey Hopen won the 50 free (21.00) and Bainbridge’s Andrew McCarthy the 500 free (4:33.09). Lakeside (Seattle) swept the two free relays; Henry Fox, Brad Fitch, Sean Ekavithvorakul, and Zach Wagner won the 200 in 1:27.95, and Conrad Shabb joined Fox, Ekavithvorakul, and Wagner to take the win in the 400 in 3:11.68. Shorewood’s Eddie Young won one meter diving with 439.60 points.<\/p>\n
Mercer Island cruised to the team title with 350 points, followed by Lakeside (Seattle), which scored 227, and Shorewood, which amassed 177.<\/p>\n
4A Results
\nThree different swimmers earned double individual victories. Eastlake’s Edward Kim and Stanwood’s Matthew Roe each took two freestyle races; Kim swept the 50 (21.32) and 100 (45.56), while Roe hit the wall first in the 200 (1:42.44) and 500 (4:37.78). Snohomish’s Bryan Harvey earned wins in both the 100 fly (49.63) and 100 back (51.94).<\/p>\n
Garfield’s Andrew Nemeth took home the title in the 200 IM (1:54.09), while Eastlake’s Zach Alleva won the 100 breast (58.07). Central Kitsap’s team of Jason Soria, Jeremy Torres, Brendan Weiner, and Tyler Hirata took the 200 free relay (1:29.55), while Todd Beamer swept the other two relays. Bart Wanot, Cole Um, Matthew Um, and Dylan Chase won the 200 medley (1:37.48), while Wanot, Cole Um, Matthew Um, and Jade Feigert swam on the victorious 400 free relay (3:13.74). South Kitsap’s Joseph Rose posted 410.75 points in one meter diving for the victory.<\/p>\n
