EVANSTON, Illinois, March 9. THE University of Georgia women's swimming and diving team has been crowned the 2010-11 CSCAA \/ TYR Dual Meet National Champions. The Lady Bulldogs impressed voters with a perfect 10-0 record. <\/p>\n
Head Coach Jack Bauerle said, "The number one ranking is a compliment to our ladies and how they went about their business in the regular season. We are proud of what this team has done, and it means a lot that others have acknowledged what we've done." <\/p>\n
The Lady Bulldogs impressed voters with a perfect 10-0 record. It is a point of pride for the team especially since the schedule that included five teams ranked in the top ten throughout the season. "We don't duck anyone just so we can pencil in a win. The competition we get from the SEC schools and from the other teams on our schedule makes us better as we move toward our ultimate goals."<\/p>\n
The University of California moved up to second following a 155-145 defeat of previously top-ranked Stanford University. The Cardinal, which captured the Pac 10 Championship, fell to third, well ahead of fourth-ranked Auburn. Southern California moved up one spot to finish in the top five while Texas, Texas A&M, Florida, Tennessee and Arizona rounded out the top ten.<\/p>\n
Those teams will square off next week at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, and it's something in the forefront of Bauerle's mind, "What's important for us right now, is to hone in on the NCAAs. Being ranked number one for dual meets is far different than being ranked number one at the end of the NCAAs. Our preparation and competitive spirit have to be at an all-time high over the next couple of weeks."<\/p>\n
Fifty-three teams received votes in the poll. The SEC led the way with four teams ranked in the top ten. The Big Ten, led by 12th ranked Indiana, placed seven teams into the poll, one ahead of both the SEC and Pac 10. Four other conferences were represented. Virginia, ranked 11th, led all ACC teams while Louisville (19th) and Southern Methodist (25th) led the Big East and C-USA respectively. <\/p>\n
