LONG BEACH, California, March 3. AUSTIN Staab won his third career Pac-10 title, setting a school-record in the 200 individual medley, while Bobby Bollier was the runner-up in the 500 free as Stanford remained in front at the Pac-10 Championships following the first full day of racing.<\/p>\n
Stanford leads the field with 323 points, as the Cardinal placed at least three swimmers in the top-eight in the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free. Cal is second with 251 points.<\/p>\n
Staab, already a two-time winner in the 100 fly, beat the field with a school-record 1:42.01, beating the previous Stanford record by nearly two seconds, set by Nat Cass in 2009 (1:43.82). Staab's time, also a Pac-10 meet record, was one of three Cardinal in the A Finals and one of five in the top-11.<\/p>\n
Bollier's time of 4:16.72 was second to USC's Clement Lefert's mark of 4:15.59. Morgan Priestley finished in third (4:17.76) as Stanford had another four swimmers in the A Finals and six in the top-12.<\/p>\n
Stanford closed out the individual portion of the night with Aaron Wayne finishing third (19.51) and Alex Coville finishing fifth (19.66) in the 50 free. Stanford place four swimmers in the top-15 of the fastest championship race.<\/p>\n
In a three-way race in the 200 free relay, Cal touched the wall ahead of Stanford with a time of 1:16.62. Stanford was second with a mark of 1:16.86.<\/p>\n
Stanford further added points, 39, with last week's finishes in the one-meter diving, placing three divers in the top-10.<\/p>\n
The Championship, which Stanford has won the last 29-straight, runs through Saturday at the Belmont Plaza Pool.<\/p>\n
