INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, February 26. AFTER an exciting four-day event, the 2011 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships ended with Green Bay women and Milwaukee men claiming the team championship titles.<\/p>\n
The Panther’s, back-to-back champions, fought a tough battle claiming first-place by just 27 points over UIC. Sam Niesen led Milwaukee, winning the 200 Backstroke in a time of 1:48.16. Throughout the week, the Panthers gained points with their depth, getting multiple swimmers into finals. Kyle Clements won the Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year award.<\/p>\n
Green Bay women won their seventh straight title, by dominating multiple events with several swimmers and divers making it into finals. Jim Merner, head swim coach and Tom Stover, head diving coach, both won Women’s Coach of the Year awards.<\/p>\n
Mark de Swardt of Cleveland State was both the Men’s Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Year and Co-Swimmer of the Meet. Hermanus Botha of Wright State was the other Co-Swimmer of the Meet. Green Bay’s Daniel Pogue was the Men’s Diver of the Meet. Tom Stover from Green Bay won Men’s Diving Coach of the Year.<\/p>\n
Panther Freshman Emily McClellan won all three individual swimming awards including Women’s Newcomer of the Year, Co-Swimmer of the Meet and Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Year. Carys Behn of Cleveland State was the other Co-Swimmer of the Meet. Kacey Cummings, also of Cleveland State was the Women’s Diver of the Meet.<\/p>\n
