OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma, February 26. THE 16th-ranked UNLV men won their seventh consecutive Mountain West Conference Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship with 770.50 team points, while No. 24 San Diego State secured the program’s first-ever MWC women’s championship title with 646 points on Saturday night at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatics Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.<\/p>\n
For the men, BYU finished second with 672 points, followed by Wyoming (594.50), TCU (497.50), Utah (471) and Air Force (413.5).<\/p>\n
On the women’s side, BYU followed the Aztecs with 562 points. Wyoming was next at 524, followed by UNLV (448), Utah (443), TCU (381), Colorado State (322), New Mexico (247) and Air Force (141).<\/p>\n
Awards were announced at the conclusion of the meet. UNLV sophomore Cody Roberts and BYU junior Brandon Watson were named MWC Men’s Swimmer and Diver of the Year, respectively. UNLV’s Jim Reitz was voted as men’s swimming coach of the year, while BYU’s Keith Russell was named men’s diving coach of the year. BYU senior Rachel Grant and San Diego State freshman Kelly Marquenie shared Women’s Swimmer of the Year honors, while SDSU junior Kristen Meier was voted Women’s Diver of the Year. San Diego State head coach Mike Shrader was named Women’s Swimming Coach of the Year, while Abel Sanchez was recognized as Women’s Diving Coach of the Year. Air Force’s Benjamin Gunn was honored with the 2011 MWC Men’s Senior Recognition Award, while Utah’s Natalie Edge received women’s plaudits. The All-MWC team will be announced on Monday, February 28.<\/p>\n
