{"id":266391,"date":"2017-07-17T11:04:48","date_gmt":"2017-07-17T18:04:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=266391"},"modified":"2017-07-17T11:04:48","modified_gmt":"2017-07-17T18:04:48","slug":"university-of-tampa-announces-incoming-class-of-21-swimmers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/university-of-tampa-announces-incoming-class-of-21-swimmers\/","title":{"rendered":"University of Tampa Announces Incoming Class of 21 Swimmers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Tampa\u2019s Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s swimming programs will bring in a stellar, well-rounded class of 21 new student-athletes for the 2017-2018 NCAA season.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s team will look to continue the upward movement within both the Sunshine State Conference (2nd place in 2017) and NCAA Championships (29th place in 2017). Led by the freestyling trio of <strong>Hana van Loock<\/strong> (who represented Germany in the 2015 European Games), <strong>Maureen Moore<\/strong>, and<strong> Gabby Gauntt<\/strong>, the incoming class bolsters 11 new women, each of which possess the potential to score in the A-finals at the conference level immediately.<\/p>\n<p>Head coach <strong>Ed Brennan<\/strong> on the women\u2019s class: \u201cWe\u2019re excited to bring in a great class of swimmers who will excel in the pool and in the classroom while also building upon the foundation set within the Spartan program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s team comes off a 3rd place finish in the Sunshine State Conference and 23rd finish at the NCAA Championships and will bring in 10 new student-athletes. Transfer (and multiple-time NJCAA national champion) <strong>Cameron Newton<\/strong>, along with <strong>Daniel Jacob<\/strong>, <strong>Brady Stabler,<\/strong> and <strong>Yannick Smith<\/strong>, will look to help continue the Spartan tradition of strong sprint freestyles, while the entirety of the conference schedule is covered within this class.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jimi Kiner<\/strong>, head coach of the men\u2019s team, had this to say: \u201cOur top sprinter, Martin Hammer, graduating is a definite loss.
