He was the 10K silver medalist in 2009.<\/li>\n<li><strong>David Heron<\/strong>\u00a0(Mission Viejo, Calif.\/University of Tennessee) is making his second career world championships appearance. He won the 5K title at 2017 Open Water Nationals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u><span data-term=\"goog_167155488\">Sunday, July 16<\/span>: Women\u2019s 10K<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ashley Twichell<\/strong>\u00a0(Fayetteville, N.Y.\/North Carolina Aquatic Club) won the 2017 national title in the 10K in convincing fashion. She is making her third world championships appearance and won gold in the 2011 5K team relay.<\/li>\n<li>Anderson was the 2012 Olympic silver medalist in the 10K and placed fifth at the 2016 Olympic Games. She was ninth at the 2015 FINA World Championships in the event.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u><span data-term=\"goog_167155489\">Tuesday, July 18<\/span>: Men\u2019s 10K<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wilimovsky is the defending world champion in the men\u2019s 10K, having won the 2015 title in Kazan, Russia. He is the 2017 national champion in the event and is making his third FINA World Championships appearance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brendan Casey\u00a0<\/strong>(Santa Monica, Calif.\/Unattached) will make his world championships debut alongside Wilimovsky in the men\u2019s 10K.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u><span data-term=\"goog_167155490\">Wednesday, July 19<\/span>: Women\u2019s 5K<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The 2017 national champion in the 5K, Anderson is the two-time defending world champion in the event with titles in 2013 and 2015. She will be joined by Twichell in the race.<\/li>\n<li>The U.S. has won nine all-time world championships medals in the women\u2019s 5K, more than any other open water event.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u><span data-term=\"goog_167155491\">Thursday, July 20<\/span>: 5K Team Relay<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The United States won gold in this event at the 2011 FINA World Championships.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u><span data-term=\"goog_167155492\">Friday, July 21<\/span>: Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s 25K<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The women\u2019s 25K will feature\u00a0<strong>Becca Mann<\/strong>\u00a0(Homer Glenn, Ill.\/Trojan Swim Club) and rookie\u00a0<strong>Cathryn Salladin<\/strong>\u00a0(Yorba Linda, Calif.\/FAST Swim Team. Mann is making her third FINA World Championships appearance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chip Peterson<\/strong>\u00a0(Pine Knoll Shores, N.C\/North Carolina Aquatic Club) makes his return to the world championships for the first time since 2010 in the men\u2019s 25K. He owns three open water world championships medals and was the 10K world champion in 2005.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Simon Lamar<\/strong>\u00a0(Sonora, Calif.\/FAST Swim Team) makes his world championships debut alongside Peterson.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The team is led by head coach\u00a0<strong>Dave Kelsheimer<\/strong>\u00a0of Team Santa Monica and assisted by\u00a0<strong>Rich DeSelm<\/strong>\u00a0of the North Carolina Aquatic Club.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>About USA Swimming<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States, USA Swimming is a 400,000-member\u00a0service organization that promotes the culture of swimming by creating opportunities for swimmers and coaches of all backgrounds to participate and advance in the sport through clubs, events and education.
