Around 2,500 athletes in\u00a0synchronized swimming, swimming, open water swimming diving, high diving and water polo will take part in the championships.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The U.S. synchro squad won gold in the team event at last month&#8217;s Synchro America Openpresented by Le R\u00eave &#8211; The Dream, a FINA World Series event. As a result, the squad earned Best of June honors for the United States Olympic Committee&#8217;s Team USA Awards presented by Dow.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In addition, the mixed duet of\u00a0<b>Bill May<\/b>\u00a0(Cicero, N.Y.\/Las Vegas) and\u00a0<b>Kanako Spendlove<\/b>\u00a0(Las Vegas) won gold, and\u00a0<b>Anita Alvarez<\/b>\u00a0(Kenmore, N.Y.) and\u00a0<b>Victoria Woroniecki<\/b>\u00a0won bronze in duet at the Synchro America Open.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Competing for the U.S. at the FINA World Championships are:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Team\u00a0<\/b>&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Anita Alvarez<\/strong>\u00a0(Kenmore, N.Y.);\u00a0<strong>Elizabeth Davidson<\/strong>\u00a0(Northridge, Calif.);\u00a0<strong>Nicole Dzurko<\/strong>\u00a0(Monte Sereno\/Los Gatos, Calif.);\u00a0<strong>Rachel Jager<\/strong>\u00a0(Williamsville, N.Y);\u00a0<strong>Jacklyn Luu<\/strong>\u00a0(Milpitas, Calif.);\u00a0<strong>Louisa Strutynski<\/strong>\u00a0(Carmel, Calif.\/Calgary, Alberta);\u00a0<strong>Alexandra Suarez<\/strong>\u00a0(San Diego, Calif.);\u00a0<strong>Karensa Tjoa<\/strong>\u00a0(San Jose, Calif.);\u00a0<strong>Natalia Vega<\/strong>\u00a0(Guaynabo, Puerto Rico);\u00a0<strong>Monica Velazquez-Stiak<\/strong>\u00a0(Phoenix, Ariz.); and\u00a0<strong>Victoria Woroniecki<\/strong>\u00a0(Palm Coast, Fla.).<\/li>\n<li><b>Solo tech<\/b>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Anita Alvarez<\/strong>\u00a0(2016 Olympian)<\/li>\n<li><b>Duet\u00a0<\/b>&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Anita Alvarez<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Victoria Woroniecki<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Mixed Duet<\/b>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Bill May<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Kanako Spendlove<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<p>The U.S. squad has been training together for only a couple of months, but team coach\u00a0<b>Jenny<\/b>\u00a0<b>Ekhilevsky<\/b>\u00a0said they are headed in the right direction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;These are brand-new routines for both of our programs, for eight people who are swimming together for the first time,&#8221; she\u00a0said. &#8220;But they&#8217;ve done a great job from where we came from.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>The mixed duet competition made its FINA Worlds debut two years ago in Kazan, Russia, where May won gold and silver. He&#8217;ll be back this time around with Spendlove, a silver medalist for Japan at the 2004 Olympics.
