LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania, February 17. THE Navy men and Colgate women sit atop the respective standings at the 2011 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships following the first finals session at Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg, Pa.<\/p>\n
The Navy men, who are aiming for a record eighth straight Patriot League championship, scored 328 points on the first night of competition to jump out ahead of the rest of the field. Host Bucknell is in second with 185 points. Navy swept all six men’s competitions Thursday night, including three individual races, two relays and the three-meter diving event.<\/p>\n
On the women’s side, Colgate was bolstered by two individual championships in the 500-yard freestyle and the 200 individual medley. Defending champion Navy won the 200 free relay and appeared to take the 400 medley relay as well, but was disqualified. Colgate, which finished second, was similarly disqualified, so the foursome from American, which originally clocked the third-fastest time, captured the League title in the event. It’s the program’s second title in the women’s 200 free relay and first since 2002.<\/p>\n
