The 2017 European Junior Championships ended tonight with three new World Junior Records.\u00a0Italy\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Nicolo\u2019 Martinenghi<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Moldova\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Alexei Sancov<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>broke the World Junior records in the men’s 100 breaststroke and the men’s 200 freestyle, respectively. The Italian team also set a new World Junior record in the men’s 4×100 medley relay.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 50 Freestyle Semi-Final<\/strong><\/h1>\n
Sweden\u2019s <\/span>Bjoern Seeliger<\/b> qualified first for the final of the men\u2019s 50 freestyle with a time of 22.45. He was followed by <\/span>Nyls Korstanje <\/b>of the Netherlands in 22.49. Hungary\u2019s <\/span>Nandor Nemeth<\/b> was third in 22.67.<\/span><\/p>\n
The fourth spot in the final goes to France\u2019s <\/span>Maxime Grousset<\/b> in 22.73. He was just ahead of Italy\u2019s <\/span>Leonardo Deplano<\/b> in 22.77. <\/span>Karol Ostrowski<\/b> of Poland touched fifth in 22.87.<\/span><\/p>\n
Seventh place went to Russia\u2019s <\/span>Kliment Kolesnikov<\/b> in 22.92, and Croatia\u2019s <\/span>Marin Ercegovic<\/b> rounded out the top eight in 22.96.<\/span><\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 50 Butterfly Semi-Final<\/h1>\n
The top qualifier in the women\u2019s 50 butterfly final is Belarus\u2019s <\/span>Anastasiya Shkurdai <\/b>in 26.75. Sweden\u2019s <\/span>Sara Junevik<\/b> was second in 26.84. They were the only two swimmers under the 27 second barrier.<\/span><\/p>\n
Polina Egorova<\/b> of Russia was third in 27.19. She was followed by <\/span>Jana Vranic<\/b> of Croatia in 27.24 for fourth. Poland\u2019s <\/span>Karolina Jurczyk <\/b>was fifth in 27.25.<\/span><\/p>\n
Sixth place went to Sweden\u2019s <\/span>Hanna Rosvall<\/b> in 27.26, while Turkey\u2019s <\/span>Aleyna Ozkan<\/b> was seventh in 27.28. <\/span>Karen Asprissi<\/b> of Italy was eighth in 27.29.<\/span><\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 400 IM<\/strong><\/h1>\n
Balazs Hollo<\/b> of Hungary won the men\u2019s 400 IM in 4:19.55. Great Britain\u2019s <\/span>Thomas Dean <\/b>took second in 4:20.20, while Poland\u2019s <\/span>Marcel Wagrowski<\/b> was third in 4:21.63.<\/span><\/p>\n
Apostolos Papastamos<\/b> of Greece finished fourth in 4:21.89, just ahead of Poland\u2019s <\/span>Dominik Bujak<\/b>, who was fifith in 4:21.93.<\/span><\/p>\n
Great Britain\u2019s <\/span>Jacob Greenow<\/b> placed sixth in 4:23.94. Spanish teammates <\/span>F. Javier Chacon Mateos <\/b>and <\/span>Daniel Gomez Diez Hector<\/b> finished in seventh and eighth place in times of 4:24.74 and 4:28.12, respectively<\/span><\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 100 Backstroke<\/strong><\/h1>\n
The only swimmer to break the one minute barrier, Russia\u2019s Polina Egorova set new European Junior and Championship Records in the women\u2019s 100 backstroke with her time of 59.62. She finished over a second ahead of her teammate, <\/span>Daria Vaskina<\/b>, who placed second in 1:00.90.<\/span><\/p>\n
Moldova\u2019s <\/span>Tatiana Salcutan<\/b> placed third in 1:01.55. She was followed by Italy\u2019s <\/span>Tania Quaglieri<\/b> for fourth in 1:01.72. Fifth place went to <\/span>Maryna Kolesnykova <\/b>of Ukraine in 1:01.85.<\/span><\/p>\n
Great Britain\u2019s <\/span>Lily Boseley<\/b> picked up sixth in 1:01.86, while Italian <\/span>Alessia Bianchi <\/b>\u00a0claimed seventh in 1:01.94. <\/span>Laura Vanda Ilyes<\/b> of Hungary rounded out the top eight in 1:02.76.<\/span><\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 100 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/h1>\n
Italy\u2019s <\/span>Nicolo\u2019 Martinenghi set a new World Junior Record in the men\u2019s 100 breaststroke, swimming a time of 59.23. Martinenghi won the race by nearly two seconds.<\/span><\/p>\n
Second place went to Russia\u2019s <\/span>Evgenii Somov<\/b> in 1:01.09. Another Italian, <\/span>Alessandro Pinzuti <\/b>placed third in 1:01.28. <\/span><\/p>\n
Austria\u2019s <\/span>Valentin Bayer<\/b> came in fourth in 1:02.22. Two polish swimmers, <\/span>Rafal Kusto<\/b> and <\/span>Jan Kalusowski<\/b> finished in fifth and sixth in times of 1:02.53 and 1:02.62, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n
Ukraine\u2019s <\/span>Mykyta Koptyelov<\/b> took seventh in 1:02.82, while <\/span>Filip Chrapavy<\/b> of the Czech Republic was eighth in 1:03.48.<\/span><\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 100 Breaststroke<\/strong><\/h1>\n
Ireland\u2019s <\/span>Mona McSharry <\/b>won the women\u2019s 100 breaststroke by over a second in a time of 1:07.61. <\/span>Tes Schouten<\/b> of the Netherlands followed McSharry for second place in 1:09.03. Sweden\u2019s <\/span>Hannah Brunzell<\/b> finished third in 1:09.59.<\/span><\/p>\n
Fourth place went to Poland\u2019s <\/span>Weronika Hallman<\/b> in 1:09.65. Hallman just out touched Hungary\u2019s <\/span>Reka Vecsei<\/b>, who took fifith in 1:09.66. Another Polish swimmer, <\/span>Aleksandra Iwanowska<\/b>, came in sixth in 1:10.22.<\/span><\/p>\n
Russia\u2019s <\/span>Alena Chekhovskikh<\/b> placed seventh in 1:10.27, while Turkey\u2019s <\/span>Beste Samanci<\/b> was eighth in 1:10.43.<\/span><\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 200 Freestyle<\/strong><\/h1>\n
Moldova\u2019s Alexei Sancov set a new World Junior record in the men\u2019s 200 freestyle with a time of 1:47.00. He finished just ahead of Hungary\u2019s <\/span>Nandor Nemeth<\/b>, who was second in 1:47.14.<\/span><\/p>\n
Russia\u2019s <\/span>Ivan Girev<\/b> placed third in 1:48.13. Israeli teammates <\/span>Tomer Frankel<\/b> and <\/span>Denis Loktev<\/b> finished fourth and fifth in 1:48.69 and 1:48.78, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n
Hungary\u2019s <\/span>Richard Marton<\/b> came in sixth in 1:49.27. <\/span>Antoni Kaluzynski<\/b> and <\/span>Jakub Kraska<\/b>, both of Poland, finished seventh and eighth in 1:49.70 and 1:51.58, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 200 IM<\/strong><\/h1>\n
Marrit Steenbergen<\/b> of the Netherlands won the women\u2019s 200 IM in a time of 2:13.69. Serbia\u2019s <\/span>Anja Crevar<\/b> took second place in 2:14.13, while Great Britain\u2019s <\/span>Alicia Wilson<\/b> grabbed third in 2:14.60.<\/span><\/p>\n
Italy\u2019s <\/span>Anna Pirovano<\/b> was fourth in 2:14.63, just ahead of France\u2019s <\/span>Cyrielle Duhamel<\/b>, who was fifth in 2:14.66. <\/span>Sofia Chichaikina<\/b> placed sixth in 2:17.99.<\/span><\/p>\n
Seventh place went to Greece\u2019s <\/span>Nikoletta Pavlopoulou <\/b>in 2:18.08. Israel\u2019s <\/span>Lea Polonsky<\/b> rounded out the top eight in 2:20.43.<\/span><\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 100 Butterfly<\/strong><\/h1>\n
Egor Kuimov<\/b> of Russia set new European Junior and Championship records in the men\u2019s 100 butterfly with his time of 51.35. He finished just ahead of <\/span>Kristof Milak<\/b> of Hungary, who\u2019s 51.49 was good for second.<\/span><\/p>\n
Estonia\u2019s <\/span>Kregor Zirk<\/b> took third place in 52.98. Switzerland\u2019s <\/span>Noe Ponti<\/b> placed fourth in 53.00. <\/span>Federico Burdisso<\/b> of Italy came in fifth in 53.34.<\/span><\/p>\n
Sixth place went to Norway\u2019s <\/span>Tomoe Zenimoto Hvas<\/b> in a time of 53.52. Turkey\u2019s <\/span>Uemitcan Gueres<\/b> was seventh in 54.04, while Italy\u2019s <\/span>Alberto Razzetti<\/b> was just behind in 54.09 for eighth.<\/span><\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 50 Butterfly<\/strong><\/h1>\n
Anastasiya Shkurdai <\/b>of Belarus won the women\u2019s 50 butterfly in 26.53. She led a trio of swimmers under 27 seconds, including 100 backstroke champion Polina Egrova of Russia who took second in 26.62. <\/span>Sara Junevik<\/b> of Sweden was also under 27, finishing third in 26.69.<\/span><\/p>\n
Fourth place went to the second Swedish swimmer, <\/span>Hanna Rosvall<\/b>, in 27.12. Poland\u2019s <\/span>Karolina Jurczyk<\/b> took fifth in 27.16. Italy\u2019s <\/span>Karen Asprissi<\/b> followed in 27.27 for sixth.<\/span><\/p>\n
Turkey\u2019s <\/span>Aleyna Ozkan<\/b> picked up seventh place in 27.34, while Croatia\u2019s <\/span>Jana Vranic<\/b> rounded out the top eight in 27.42.<\/span><\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 50 Freestyle<\/strong><\/h1>\n
Italy\u2019s <\/span>Leonardo Deplano<\/b> won the men\u2019s 50 freestyle in 22.47. Sweden\u2019s <\/span>Bjoern Seeliger<\/b> took second in 22.54, with France\u2019s <\/span>Maxime Grousset<\/b> just behind in 22.64 for third.<\/span><\/p>\n
Nandor Nemeth<\/b> of Hungary and <\/span>Nyls Korstanje <\/b>of the Netherlands tied for fourth place in 22.64. Croatia\u2019s <\/span>Marin Ercegovic<\/b> was sixth in 22.69.<\/span><\/p>\n
Poland\u2019s <\/span>Karol Ostrowski<\/b> came in seventh in 22.79. Israel\u2019s <\/span>David Ribinski<\/b> placed eighth in 22.86.<\/span><\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 4×200 Freestyle Relay<\/strong><\/h1>\n
The women of <\/span>Hungary <\/b>set a new championship record in the women\u2019s 4×200 freestyle relay, finishing first in 7:58.99. The team was nearly three seconds ahead of <\/span>Belgium<\/b>, who placed second in 8:02.67. <\/span>Russia <\/b>finished third in 8:03.66.<\/span><\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 4×100 Medley Relay<\/strong><\/h1>\n
In the men’s 4×100 medley relay,\u00a0Italy\u00a0<\/strong>set new World Junior, European Junior, and Championship records with their time of 3:35.24.\u00a0Russia\u00a0<\/strong>followed in second in a time of 3:35.44, also under the previous records.\u00a0Poland\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 3:38.77.<\/p>\n
