ATHENS, Ohio, February 4. IN a dual meet marked by first-place finishes from its top guns, the Ohio swimming and diving team defeated Xavier Friday night by a final score of 118-78. The Bobcats improved to 9-2 overall (3-1 MAC).<\/p>\n
The Bobcat Relay squad kicked things off in the 200 Medley Relay as Rachel Stearns (Minnetonka, Minn.), Katey Brooks (North Royalton, Ohio), Molly Slattery (Fredericksburg, Va), and Abby Corcoran (Tucson, Ariz.) took first place with a time of 1:48.34. The Morgan Sprosty (Irvine, Calf.), Lauren Funk (Springfield, Ohio), Deidre Geroni (Emmaus, Pa.), and Anastasia Bocharnikova (Nizhny Tagil, Russia) combination finished in second with a time of 1:48.34.<\/p>\n
The trio of Laurin Williams (Shoreline, Wash.), Annika Games (Brea, Calf.), and Petra Chomicz (King's Lynn, Norfolk, England) secure the top three spots in the 800 Free with times of 8:15.31, 8:25.60, and 8:28.73, respectively. Stacey Huber (Gainesville, Fla.) and Kristen Witham (Fort Wayne, Ind.) performed well in the 150 Free, finishing first and third with times of 1:24.51 and 1:26.60, respectively.<\/p>\n
Brooks won the 50 Free with a time of 24.47, while Sarah Owen finished closely behind in second place with a time of 25.04. Stearns, Rachel Heim (San Diego, Calf.), and Katie Power (Ottawa, Ontario) owned the 100 IM, as they took first, second, and third place with times of 1:00.59, 1:02.49, and 1:04.17, respectively.<\/p>\n
Heim carried her success into the 150 Fly, as she took first in the event with a time of 1:31.22. Amanda Cecere (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Geroni finished second and third with times of 1:32.49 and 1:34.51, respectively, giving Ohio a healthy lead halfway through the meet.<\/p>\n
Bocharnikova dominated the 100 Free with a first-place time of 53.14, breaking her former personal-best time of 53.97. Stearns followed up in second place with a time of 53.73 in only her first time swimming in the event this season. Power, Sprosty, and Games lined the top three spots in the 150 Back with times of 1:34.14, 1:35.99, and 1:36.01, respectively.<\/p>\n
Xavier would go on to win the final three events, but it was not enough to muster a comeback as Ohio coasted to another victory.<\/p>\n
The Bobcats will return to the pool tomorrow to face Mid-American Conference arch-rival Miami. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
