MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, February 4. MINNESOTA captured titles in all five events that were contested on Friday night at the Minnesota Challenge at the University Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Abbey Staatz won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.66 seconds after helping the Gophers' 200 free relay to victory in a time of 1:35.24. Other members of the relay were Melissa Nelson, Monica Radecke and Brianna Chu.<\/p>\n
The Gophers went 1-2 in the 500 free with Marissa Davies winning in a time of 4:55.08, followed by Lissa Tommerdahl in second in a time of 4:57.90.<\/p>\n
Minnesota also grabbed first and second places in the 200 individual medley and the 50 free. Elizabeth Weitz won the title in the 200 IM clocking a time of 2:04.39, with Danielle James claiming runner-up honors in 2:05.85. Nelson finished second in the 50 free in a time of 23.92.<\/p>\n
Nelson, who led off the 200 free relay, swam the first leg of the winning 400 medley relay as well. The relay of Nelson, Avery Michienzi, Jenna Howenstein and Radecke notched a winning time of 3:54.20.<\/p>\n
The second of three sessions of the Minnesota Challenge begins on Saturday at noon.<\/p>\n
