AKRON, Ohio, February 4. IN the final meet of the regular season, the Toledo swimming and diving team won 11 events en route to a 164-128 win over Akron Friday evening. The win gives the Rockets great momentum as they prepare for the MAC Championships in three weeks.<\/p>\n
The Rockets took the lead early and never looked back, winning the first seven events. Toledo opened the meet with a 1-2 finish in the 200 Medley Relay, led by the team of Christina Noens, Laura Lindsay, McKenzie Bagan and Beth Rogers (1:47.28). They quickly followed that with a top-three sweep in the 1000 Free with Jacy Dyer (10:11.79) taking the top spot, followed by Claire Leichty (10:18.72) and Lauren Siefferman (10:30.45).<\/p>\n
"I think the meet was a great way to end our regular season," said Dyer. "For the seniors it was bittersweet because it was our last dual meet ever. Everyone swam well tonight and this meet should help give us confidence heading into the MAC Championships."<\/p>\n
In the third event, the 200 Free, the Rockets once again swept the top three spots. Senior Kelsey Atchison (1:53.34) took first in a season-best time, with Laura Heckroth (1:53.62) and Maegen Krugler (1:54.71) close behind in second and third. Noens followed with a win in the 100 Back (58.18), and later won the 200 Back (2:05.55) as well.<\/p>\n
Reigning MAC Swimmer of the Week Carly Harter continued her impressive season with a pair of wins. She first won the 50 Free (23.73), then took first in the 500 Free (4:56.89) in her first time swimming the event this season.<\/p>\n
Lindsay also added two wins for the Rockets, winning both the 100 Breaststroke (1:02.21) and 200 Breaststroke (2:16.66). The 100 time continued a streak of six-straight meets hitting an NCAA "B" cut, her ninth of the season.<\/p>\n
The Rockets also won both of the butterfly events, with senior Amanda Thompson touching first in the 100 Fly (57.13) and junior Louise Smyth winning the 200 Fly (2:06.15).<\/p>\n
"We finished the 2010-11 dual meet season on a great note," said Head Coach Liz Hinkleman. "It was important for the girls to perform at the last meet leading into the MAC Championships."<\/p>\n
The Rockets will take the next three weeks to prepare to defend their title at the MAC Championships, which will take place in Athens, OH on Feb. 23-26.<\/p>\n
