BOULDER, Colorado, January 30. WITH the month of January coming to a close and conference meets fast-approaching, quick times continued to roll in this weekend from swimmers nationwide. Here are some highlights from the busy dual meet weekend. <\/p>\n
Arizona, SMU and Texas faced off in Austin for a two-day meet, with the Texas men earning convincing wins against both Arizona and SMU. Meanwhile, the lady Longhorns emerged with a win against a strong Arizona squad. <\/p>\n
Karlee Bispo, Leah Gingrich and Laura Sogar each won two events apiece for the Texas women. Bispo touched first in the 200 free (1:47.92) and 100 free (49.24), Gingrich recorded wins in the 1650 free (16:52.25) and 200 fly (1:59.72) and Sogar raced to first place finishes in both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes (1:01.11, 2:13.53).<\/p>\n
Alyssa Anderson recorded several victories for the Wildcats, winning the 400 IM (4:12.24), 500 free (4:46.30) and 200 IM (2:02.81). <\/p>\n
On the mens' side, Nick D'Innocenzo and Jimmy Feigen each won multiple events to pace the Texas men to victory. D'Innocenzo swam to wins in the 400 IM (3:48.78) and 100 breast (55.01), while Feigen took home titles in the 100 free (44.00) and 200 free (1:36.82). Tom Cole had several strong swims for the SMU men, while Cory Chitwood swam well for the Wildcats. <\/p>\n
In a battle of two SEC powerhouses, Florida and Tennessee duked it out in Gainesville, with the Gators coming out victorious in both the men's and women's meets. Conor Dwyer won two events for the Florida men, posting sizzling times in the 200 free (1:34.33) and 400 IM (3:44.73). Marco Loughran also touched first in two events, winning both the 100 (47.78) and 200 (1:44.01) back.<\/p>\n
Elizabeth Beisel posted top times for the Gators in the 1000 free (9:48.58), 200 back (1:55.75) and 400 IM (4:11.66). Fellow freshman Hilda Luthersdottir claimed two wins in the 100 breast (1:02.29) and 200 breast (2:13.64). <\/p>\n
Out west, two of the top-ranked women's teams in the nation in Stanford and Southern California battled on Saturday, with Stanford emerging with a 161.5 to 136.5 win to remain undefeated in dual meets this season. Kate Dwelley was victorious for the Cardinal in both the 200 free (1:45.78) and 100 free (49.20), while freshman teammate Maya DiRado added wins in the 100 back (54.05) and 200 back (1:56.85). Meg Hostage owned the diving well, sweeping the one-meter and three-meter events. <\/p>\n
Several Big Ten schools were also in action this weekend, as Purdue hosted the Big Ten Quad. Maggie Meyer won the 100 back (54.27) and 200 back (1:56.51) to lead Wisconsin, while Minnesota's Ashley Steenvoorden won the 1000 free (9:43. 74) and 500 free (4:47.16) and Kelci Bryant swept the one-meter and three-meter diving contests. <\/p>\n
Daniel Lester touched first in the 200 fly (1:48.54), 200 IM (1:50.67) and 100 fly (48.15) for the Wisconsin men, and Curt Carlson posted victories in the 200 free (1:39.41) and 100 free (44.97) to lead the Minnesota men. Purdue's David Boudia swept diving on the men's side, claiming victories in both the one-meter and three-meter contests. <\/p>\n
In Division II action, Drury lost to Arkansas but had strong swims from Tinsley Andrews in the 200 free (1:52.84) and 100 free (52.84) and Monica Alvarez in the 100 breast (1:07.10) and 200 breast (2:21.75). <\/p>\n
In Division III action, Emory raced against Wingate and had strong showings from Sadie Nennig (200 IM, 2:10.54; 100 back, 58.73) and Ross Spock (100 back, 52.20).<\/p>\n
