And he did so in commanding fashion\u2014 nearly a second ahead of the three-time defending Olympic gold medalist, <strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong>. Phelps finished the race in a three-way tie for second with fellow butterfly greats: South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chad le Clos<\/strong> and Hungary&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Laszlo Cseh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Schooling was only 13 when he first met Phelps. \u201cIf it weren\u2019t for Michael, I don\u2019t think I could have gotten to this point,\u201d says Schooling.<\/p>\n<p>Now he wants to break Phelps&#8217; world record.
