COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, January 28. MOLLY Brown swam the first leg of Colorado College's victory in the 200-yard medley relay and went on to win two other events to help Colorado College cruise past McMurry University, 138.5-59.5, on Friday night at Schlessman Natatorium.<\/p>\n
In fact, the medley combination of Brown, Caroline Costley, Malia Vitousek and Brenna Day would go on to record all seven of CC's individual victories. <\/p>\n
Costley started the avalanche of wins by taking the 200 freestyle in 2:00.38, lowering her own season-best time in the event by 1.58 seconds. In the final solo event of the day, Costley won the 100 breaststroke by 7.05 seconds with an effort of 1:10.36.<\/p>\n
The freestyle sprints belonged to Brenna Day, who won the 50 free in 25.98 and the 100 free in 56.29.
\nBrown won her first individual event with a mark of 2:22.02 in the 200 individual medley, and she finished in a dead heat with McMurry's Alexandra Altstaetter in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall simultaneously in 1:04 .42.<\/p>\n
In the 100 butterfly, Vitousek prevailed in a time of 1:07.39. <\/p>\n
Nicole Fazio won both 1- and 3-meter boards while setting a school record and posting an NCAA qualifying performance score for the second week in a row. Her six-dive total of 271.50 in the 1-meter diving eclipsed Kirsten Melbye's total of 256.95, which was set in 1996.<\/p>\n
In the final event of the day, Katie Burns, Anya Arndt, Whitney Petersen and Carrie Markel teamed up for a winning time of 1:48.06 in the 200 free relay. <\/p>\n
In all, CC won 10 of 12 events and posted a pair of season-best times.<\/p>\n
The two-day competition against McMurry continues on Saturday at noon.<\/p>\n
