BUFFALO, New York, January 28. THE University at Buffalo's women's swimming and diving team won its fourth consecutive dual meet on Friday afternoon as the Bulls defeated the Akron Zips, 169.5-123.5, at Alumni Arena Natatorium.<\/p>\n
The Bulls (5-2, 2-1 MAC) won 11 of the first 14 events before exhibitioning the final two races. UB used its depth in the victory with just one swimmer, senior Jordan Deren, winning more than one individual event.<\/p>\n
Deren took first place in the 200-yard freestyle, setting a season-best, with her finish of 1:54.17. She also scored a victory in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:08.17.<\/p>\n
Two other Bulls set season-best times in their victories on Friday. Karly Moore won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:07.27, cutting nearly a full second off her previous best while Logan Mason erased more than two seconds from her top time in winning the 100-yard butterfly in 58.83.<\/p>\n
Winning in the sprint freestyles were Caroline Simmons and Marissa Murphy. Simmons took the 50-yard freestyle in 23.87 with Murphy claiming the 100-yard freestyle in 53.53. Tracy Vogel won the distance race, the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:35.23.<\/p>\n
UB swept the breaststroke races as well with Brynn Marecki taking the 100-yard distance in 1:05.53 and Alie Schirmers winning the 200-yard race in 2:26.65. Dani Adank won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:07.90.<\/p>\n
The Bulls also claimed the opening relay race of the day as Katelyn Pratt-Collins, Marecki, Jessie Koltz and Simmons won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:46.47.<\/p>\n
Akron (4-6, 0-3 MAC) swept the diving events as Jayne Malloy won the one-meter springboard event with 268.50 points and Amanda Angeloff took the three-meter event with 294.53 points.<\/p>\n
The Bulls look to extend their dual meet win streak to five tomorrow against Ball State at Alumni Arena Natatorium at 1:00 pm. <\/p>\n
