{"id":262620,"date":"2017-06-27T13:04:26","date_gmt":"2017-06-27T20:04:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=262620"},"modified":"2017-07-06T11:38:13","modified_gmt":"2017-07-06T18:38:13","slug":"paolo-barelli-releases-manifesto-in-campaign-for-fina-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/paolo-barelli-releases-manifesto-in-campaign-for-fina-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Paolo Barelli Releases Manifesto in Campaign for FINA President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Paolo Barelli<\/strong>, the President of the European Swimming Federation (LEN), has released a document containing the manifesto he is campaigning off of in his bid to become the new President of FINA.<\/p>\n<p>Barelli is challenging two-term incumbent\u00a0<strong>Julio Maglione<\/strong>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/paolo-barelli-blasts-fina-leadership-for-conflicts-of-interest-running-for-fina-president\/\" target=\"_blank\">he has voiced strong criticism to FINA&#8217;s established leadership<\/a> in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>The manifesto begins with a letter from Barelli, which can be read below in full, while<a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/Paolo-Barelli-Manifesto-2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"> the manifesto can be downloaded here<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Dear Friends,<\/p>\n<p>Please find herewith attached my Manifesto for the upcoming presidential election at FINA.<\/p>\n<p>It consists of the seven drivers listed below and which you can read about in more detail by seeing the attached document.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>FINA is not a financial institution with the objective of setting money aside. I want FINA to give all the support possible, including economic support, to the Federations<\/li>\n<li>I will ensure the FINA Development Programme is given a more defined role which will be tailored to positively impact on all Federations<\/li>\n<li>I want Athletes, Teams, Federations and Organizers to feel that events are organised with their collective interest at heart<\/li>\n<li>I will ensure that FINA remains focused on the promotion of aquatic sports worldwide<\/li>\n<li>I will make it a priority to introduce drastic measures to ensure that any type of conflict of interest within FINA is avoided<\/li>\n<li>I will make FINA take a more aggressive and innovative stand in its fight against doping<\/li>\n<li>I feel FINA must capitalize on both the experience and the expertise of the person at the helm of it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I trust that my Manifesto will gather a large consensus and the National Federation\u2019s support. These will both be necessary to foster together the change that FINA needs for its ever-growing affirmation and an ever-brighter future for our sports.<\/p>\n<p>While feel free to share the document
