The 2017 Sette Colli International concluded in Rome today with a multitude of meet records falling and many swimmers moving into the top 20 world rankings for 2017.<\/p>\n
Denmark’s\u00a0Pernille Blume\u00a0<\/strong>delivered the second fastest 50 free of 2017 at a 24.13, while Great Britain’s\u00a0Molly Renshaw<\/strong> and Denmark’s\u00a0Rikke Moeller Pedersen<\/strong> battled in the women’s 200 breast.<\/p>\n Hungary’s\u00a0Peter Bernek<\/strong> grabbed gold in the men’s 200 back with a final time of 1:57.45. Bernek’s time moves him into the top 20 world rankings for 2017.<\/p>\n Christian Diener<\/strong> of Germany picked up a close second with a 1:57.50, also moving him into the top 20 world rankings.<\/p>\n Great Britain’s\u00a0Luke\u00a0<\/strong>Greenbank<\/b> rounded out the podium with a final time of 1:58.87.<\/p>\n Kata Burian<\/strong> continued the gold medal streak for Hungary with a top showing in the women’s 200 back. Burian turned in a top showing of 2:09.89, just off her 2017 best of 2:09.85 from the Hungarian Championships.<\/p>\n Australia’s\u00a0Sian Whittaker<\/strong> grabbed second with a time of 2:10.65, while Italy’s\u00a0Margherita\u00a0<\/strong>Panzier\u00a0<\/b>took third with a 2:10.87.<\/p>\n Ukraine’s\u00a0Andriy Govorov<\/strong> flew to a new meet record in the men’s 50 fly, stopping the clock at a sizzling 23.01. His time downs his own meet record of 23.09, set in prelims, and moves him to fourth in the world rankings for 2017.<\/p>\n Nicholas Santos<\/strong> of Brazil claimed the silver with a time of 23.08, finishing behind his 2017 world leading time of 22.61. Great Britain’s\u00a0Ben Proud<\/strong> was third with a 23.32.<\/p>\n Liliana Szilagyi<\/strong> of Hungary neared the meet record of 2:07.05 in the women’s 200 fly, delivering a top time of 2:07.50. Szilagyi’s time moves her to ninth in the world rankings for 2017.<\/p>\n Great Britain’s\u00a0Charlotte Atkinson<\/strong> finished second overall with a time of 2:08.31, but her fastest time sits at a 2:07.06 from the British Championships.<\/p>\n Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong> of Hungary rounded out the podium with a third-place finish of 2:08.91, finishing off her 2017 best of 2:08.06.<\/p>\n Germany’s\u00a0Marco Koch<\/strong> topped the competition in the men’s 200 breast with a time of 2:09.63, but his 2017 best sits at a 2:09.07 from the Eindhoven Swim Cup.<\/p>\n The Italian duo of\u00a0Luca Pizzini<\/strong> and\u00a0Moises Daniel Loschi<\/strong> completed the podium with times of 2:10.73 and 2:11.85 respectively.<\/p>\n The race to gold in the women’s 200 breast existed between Great Britain’s\u00a0Molly Renshaw\u00a0<\/strong>and Denmark’s\u00a0Rikke Moeller Pedersen<\/strong>. Pedersen, the world record holder in this event, grabbed an immediate lead heading toward what looked like a solid win, but Renshaw turned up the speed in the final 100 meters.<\/p>\n Renshaw split a sizzling 37.49 over Pedersen’s 38.54 in the final 50 meters to out-touch Pedersen by .02 seconds. The two finished with times of 2:25.38 and 2:25.40 respectively.<\/p>\n Both Renshaw and Pedersen have been faster in 2017 with Renshaw sitting at third in the world rankings with a 2:23.04 and Pedersen at ninth with a 2:24.31.<\/p>\n Martina Moravcikova<\/strong> of the Czech Republic touched third with a time of 2:27.42.<\/p>\n Dominik Kozma<\/strong> of Hungary sprinted to first in the men’s 100 free, stopping the clock at a final time of 48.65.<\/p>\n Brazil’s\u00a0Bruno Fratus<\/strong> and Australia’s\u00a0James Magnusson<\/strong> finished with close times of 48.75 and 48.77 for second and third.<\/p>\n Olympic gold medalist\u00a0Pernille Blume\u00a0<\/strong>posted a dominating finish in the women’s 50 free with a time of 24.13, downing\u00a0Ranomi Kromowidjojo’s\u00a0<\/strong>2012 meet record of 24.21. Blume’s time rockets her to second in the world rankings, behind Sweden’s\u00a0Sarah Sjostrom’s\u00a0<\/strong>23.83.<\/p>\n The Dutch duo of Kromowidjojo and\u00a0Tamara van Vilet<\/strong> turned in times of 24.39 and 25.04 for second and third respectively.<\/p>\n Japan’s\u00a0Daiya Seto<\/strong> posted a new meet record in the men’s 200 IM, stopping the clock with a time of 1:57.54. Seto’s time takes down Brazil’s\u00a0Thiago Pereira’s<\/strong> 2012 meet record of 1:57.94.<\/p>\n David Verraszto<\/strong> of Hungary grabbed second overall with a top time of 1:59.25, followed by Brazil’s\u00a0Thiago<\/strong>\u00a0Simon’s\u00a0<\/strong>1:59.99.<\/p>\n The meet records continued falling in the women’s 200 IM as Great Britain’s\u00a0Siobhan-Marie O’Connor<\/strong>\u00a0powered to a final time of 2:10.01. Her time\u00a0demolished the meet record of 2:11.34, set in 2008 by Australia’s\u00a0Stephanie Rice<\/strong>.
