GAMBIER, Ohio, January 21. THE University of Cincinnati swimming and diving squad wrapped up the first of a two-day quad meet at the Kenyon Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n
The UC women lead their meet, tallying 292 points on day one, ranking them ahead of Oakland University (258), Kenyon College (257), and Ashland University (96). The men sit fourth after one day of competition with 98.5 points. Oakland (351) is first, followed by Kenyon (286), Ashland (106.5), and the Bearcats.<\/p>\n
The UC women started off the meet by taking first in the 400-yard medley relay. The quartet clocked 3:56.32. On the men's side, the Bearcats clocked 3:34.37 to take seventh place.<\/p>\n
Amanda Hardewig led the UC effort in the 1,000-yard freestyle, taking sixth place with a time of 10:46.13. On the men's side Stephen Cunningham placed fourth with his time of 9:39.28.<\/p>\n
Josefin Wede grabbed the win in the women's 200 IM, clocking 2:07.13, displacing her competition by almost a second.<\/p>\n
Liz Hansson also earned a win in the women's 200-yard freestyle with her effort of 1:52.00. Nathan Williams topped the Bearcats ledger on the men's side, clocking 1:44.62 to place fifth.<\/p>\n
Laurie Caudy timed in at 24.50 to take second place in the women's 50-yard freestyle event.<\/p>\n
Brittany Teneyck placed second in the women's 1-meter diving event. TenEyck tallied 308.90 points, just off Marcella Barretta's winning mark of 310.05. <\/p>\n
Hansson led a 1-3-4-5 UC finish in the women's 200 backstroke. Hansson took first in 2:05.30, over three seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Hardewig was third (2:09.85), Erin Frye placed fourth (2:09.98), and Anna Bersani was fifth (2:10.01).
\nWede took top honors in the 200 breaststroke, clocking 2:19.88 for the win. Stephanie Conklin placed third with a time of 2:23.03. On the men's side, Haywood Miller placed fourt with a time of 2:08.05.<\/p>\n
Caudy also finished second in the women's 200 butterfly with her effort of 2:05.55. Roberto Nevarez grabbed third in the men's 200 butterfly with his time of 1:54.96, just off the winning pace of 1:54.48.<\/p>\n
The women's 400 freestyle relay team closed out the evening with a win in the last women's event of the night, clocking 3:31.93 for the victory. The men's squad took sixth in their race with a time of 3:13.15.<\/p>\n
The meet concludes Saturday.<\/p>\n
