Florida State swimming and diving head coach Neal Studd<\/strong> has announced the promotion of Emma Svensson<\/strong> to assistant coach on Thursday<\/span>. Svensson previously served the past two seasons as a graduate assistant and will take on assisting with all groups, day-to-day operations and recruiting.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very excited to be part of the Seminole family and help our student-athletes develop in this new role,\u201d Svensson said. \u201cFlorida State has fantastic academic standards and an athletic department with all of the resources to help our team succeed at the highest level.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am extremely excited Emma is joining our staff,\u201d Studd said. \u201cShe has an outstanding knowledge of the sport. She understands what is required to be successful at the very top level. As one of my former swimmers and as a graduate assistant for the past two years, she has a unique perspective of what I want and expect from an assistant coach.\u201d<\/p>\n

Svensson was a Hall of Fame swimmer at Florida Gulf Coast under Studd from 2011-15.\u00a0 She was a four-time NCAA qualifier, scoring the Eagles\u2019 first points at the national level behind a 12th place showing in the 50 free in 2014. She matched that performance in 2015, while helping the Eagles qualify for their first ever NCAA championship final, finishing eighth in the 200 free relay.<\/p>\n

As a three-time Coastal Collegiate Sports Association and FGCU record holder, Svensson was the two-time (2013,2015) CCSA Women\u2019s Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet in addition to the 2013 CCSA Swimmer of the Year. She also helped the Eagles to four-straight CCSA titles.<\/p>\n

Academically, she was selected as the NCAA Elite 89 award winner in 2013, which is given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the NCAA Championships. Svensson was tabbed as the CCSA Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2015 along with the Eagle Scholar-Athlete Award.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer intelligence and personality is sure to have a massive impact on our program,\u201d Studd said. \u201cI could not be prouder and more excited to add such an incredible talent and person to our exceptional staff here at Florida State.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great to see a turnaround last season with the leadership of Coach Studd,\u201d Svensson said. \u201cHaving had him for a coach at FGCU, he has taught me more in life than anyone else. I believe in the program he\u2019s building and I am ready to assist in any way that I can to help us move forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

A native of Uppsala, Sweden, Svensson graduated from FGCU in 2015 where she majored in business economics and completed her master\u2019s degree in the spring of 2017 at Florida State in financial mathematics.<\/p>\n
