IOC President Thomas Bach<\/strong> will be meeting with United States President Donald Trump<\/strong> on Thursday, June 22 to discuss Los Angeles’ bid for the 2024 Olympic Games<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While the Games will be taking place across the southern coast of California<\/a>, the meeting between the two presidents will take place at the White House in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

Bach is currently in the United States because of the recent Olympic deal with Intel<\/a>\u00a0which was finalized in New York City.\u00a0Additionally, all\u00a0three IOC members from the United States, Anita DeFrantz<\/strong>, Larry Probst<\/strong> and Angela Ruggiero<\/strong>, are likely to be in attendance.<\/p>\n

There will not be any representatives from the Los Angeles 2024 campaign, but it has been reported that Bach and Trump have a good relationship. The two spoke on the phone in November and the conversation lasted longer than expected.<\/p>\n

“President Trump has been and continues to be supportive of the bid and the administration has been helpful to the United States Olympic Committee in its application,” the White House said in a statement<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to Inside the Games<\/a>, this is much more interaction with the IOC than given by Trump’s predecessor Barack Obama<\/strong>. When Chicago was bidding for the 2016 Games, Obama did not meet with the IOC, and his presence at the final vote upset many members of the IOC because roads were closed for security purposes and his entourage was large.<\/p>\n

Between this and Chicago’s elimination in the first round, Obama did not have any further contact with the IOC.<\/p>\n

Trump’s meeting comes just weeks before the IOC will meet for the Candidate City Briefing in Lausanne on July 11 and 12. On September 13 in Lima, the Games are expected to be awarded for 2024 and 2028. Currently, it appears as if LA will receive the latter slot.<\/p>\n

French President\u00a0Emmanuel Macron\u00a0<\/strong>has already promised to attend both events. It is unclear at this time if Trump will attend either meeting.<\/p>\n
