BURLINGTON, Vermont, January 9. THE University of Vermont swimming and diving returned to action on Sunday with a 218-73 victory over visiting Central Connecticut State at Forbush Natatorium. Four different Catamounts earned a pair of victories, while Vermont finished first in 13 of 16 events to improve to 8-3 on the year. <\/p>\n
Avery Pittman, Caitlin Dowd, Kate Weaver and Lauren Colby each won a pair of events for the Catamounts. Pittman swept the butterfly events, leading a 1-2-3 finish in each. She won the 100 in 58.93 and was followed by Nicole Peruso and Chelsea Krisanda. Pittman then won the 200 (2:10.50), with Krisanda taking second and Peruso third. <\/p>\n
Dowd won both the breaststroke events, as she also led Vermont to a 1-2-3 finish in both. She won the 100 in a time of 1:08.32, as Emily Metta followed in second and Eva Wimberley in third. Dowd also took first in the 200 in 2:26.30, while Metta and Jordan Schweizer came in second and third. <\/p>\n
Weaver led the Cats to a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 IM, as she won in a time of 2:10.86. Krisanda and Karole-Ann Bayer came in second and third. Colby wrapped up the multiple event winners by finishing first in both the one and three meter dives. Colby won the one-meter with a score of 217.85, as UVM took the top three spots with Melissa Wheeler and Meaghan Cunningham following. Colby scored a 209.17 to finish first in the three-meters, as Wheeler came in second. <\/p>\n
Also earning victories for the Catamounts were Kailey Gardner in the 1,000 free (10:23.25), Emily Alexander in the 100 backstroke (1:01.36) and Hannah Center in the 50 freestyle (25.71). Vermont swept both relays on the afternoon, as the team of Weaver, Metta, Pittman and Center won the 200 medley relay in 1:50.06. Dowd, Abby Mundt, Center and Gardner teamed up to finish first in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:39.29. <\/p>\n
