The 2017 German National Championships continued with more German National records toppling down.<\/p>\n

Phillip Heintz<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>downed his own national record in the men’s 200 IM twice\u00a0<\/em>throughout the course of the day, before settling the record at a 1:55.76. His time currently stands as the fastest in the world for 2017.<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 Free<\/h3>\n

Damian Wierling<\/strong> got the meet off to a quick start, topping the men’s field in the 50-meter splash and dash. Wierling, the German National record holder in this event, stopped the clock at a final time of 22.06. His time moves him to 15th in the world rankings for 2017.<\/p>\n

Maximillian Oswald<\/strong> picked up second with a final time of 22.44, followed by\u00a0Tim-Thorben Suck’s<\/strong> 22.83.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 IM<\/h3>\n

Philip Heintz<\/strong> blasted his way to a new German Record in the men’s 200 IM, lowering his previous record for the second time in one day. Heintz posted a final time of 1:55.76, bettering his prelims time of 1:56.59, which broke his record of 1:57.48 that was posted during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

Heintz’s new record blasts him to the top of the 2017 world rankings and makes him the only athlete to have posted a sub 1:56 swim this season.<\/p>\n

Jacob Heidtmann<\/strong> finished second overall with a time of 2:00.72, while\u00a0Kevin Wedel<\/strong> turned in a third place finish of 2:00.99.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Free<\/h3>\n

The women’s 200 free was highlighted by a close race between the top three finishers. Despite trailing at the 150-meter mark,\u00a0Isabel Marie Gose<\/strong> turned up the heat to pass fellow countrywoman\u00a0Leonie K<\/strong>ullmann\u00a0<\/b>and claim gold.<\/p>\n

Gose stopped the clock with a time of 1:58.86, just .03 seconds ahead of Kullmann’s 1:58.89.<\/p>\n

Sarah\u00a0K\u00f6hler<\/strong> added a third place finish of 1:58.99.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 Fly<\/h3>\n

David Thomasberger<\/strong> flew into record range in finals of the men’s 200 fly, finishing .57 seconds off\u00a0Michael Gro\u00df’s<\/strong> German Record of 1:56.24. Thomasberger collected the gold with a final time of 1:56.81, finishing just outside of the 2017 top 20 world rankings.<\/p>\n

Second place was picked up by\u00a0Alexander Kunert<\/strong> and his time of 1:57.12, followed by\u00a0Fynn\u00a0<\/strong>Minuth<\/b> and his time of 1:57.34.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Back<\/h3>\n

Lisa Graf<\/strong> topped a tight field in the women’s 100 back finals, delivering a final time of 1:00.37 for the gold. Graf’s time put her within .60 seconds of\u00a0Daniela Samulski’s\u00a0<\/strong>German Record of 59.77, set in 2009 at the World Championships in Rome.<\/p>\n

Nadine Laemmler<\/strong> grabbed a close second with a time of 1:00.56, followed by a tie between\u00a0Johanna Roas<\/strong> and\u00a0Laura Riedemann<\/strong>. The two delivered matching times of 1:00.71 to share the bronze medal.<\/p>\n

Men’s 1500 Free<\/h3>\n

The men’s 1500 free proved to be a tight race as the top three men stayed within a few seconds of one another.\u00a0Florian Wellbrock<\/strong> and\u00a0S\u00f6ren Mei\u00dfner<\/strong> exchanged the lead throughout the race, but at the end it was Wellbrock who claimed gold.<\/p>\n

Wellbrock stopped the clock with a time of 15:01.34, improving upon his previous 2017 best of 15:02.91. His time holds him at ninth in the world rankings for 2017.<\/p>\n

Mei\u00dfner, meanwhile, settled for second with a 15:03.66, entering and landing at tenth in the world rankings for 2017.<\/p>\n

Ruwen Straub<\/strong> rounded out the top three with a third-place finish of 15:05.59.<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 Breast<\/h3>\n

Jessica Steiger<\/strong> collected her second national title for the meet with a top showing in the women’s 50 breast. Steiger, who downed the 200 breast national record<\/a> yesterday, topped the 50 with a time of 31.29.<\/p>\n

Vanessa Grimberg<\/strong> took second overall with a time of 31.83, while\u00a0Alice Ruhnau<\/strong> was third with a 31.96.<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 Back<\/h3>\n

Mark Ulrich<\/strong> wrapped up the session with a top showing in the men’s 50 back. Ulrich dashed to a final time of 24.88, making him the only athlete to finish beneath the 25-second mark. His efforts move him to ninth in the world rankings for 2017.<\/p>\n

Second place was earned by\u00a0Carl Louis Schwarz<\/strong>, who touched with a final time of 25.45, while\u00a0Ole Braunschweig<\/strong> posted a 25.62 for third.<\/p>\n
