{"id":260473,"date":"2017-06-13T09:27:34","date_gmt":"2017-06-13T16:27:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=260473"},"modified":"2017-06-13T09:27:34","modified_gmt":"2017-06-13T16:27:34","slug":"jack-burnell-among-british-open-water-swimmers-headed-to-world-champs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jack-burnell-among-british-open-water-swimmers-headed-to-world-champs\/","title":{"rendered":"Jack Burnell Among British Open Water Swimmers Headed to World Champs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A six-strong British Marathon Swimming Team has been selected to compete at this summer\u2019s World Championships in Hungary.<\/p>\n<p>Olympian <strong>Jack Burnell<\/strong>, as the most experienced athlete, will spearhead the outfit in what will be his third World Championships.<\/p>\n<p>The European silver medalist was a fifth place finisher at the World Championships two years ago and will contest the Olympic 10km distance alongside <strong>Caleb<\/strong> <strong>Hughes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the Women\u2019s 10km <strong>Danielle Huskisson<\/strong> and <strong>Alice Dearing<\/strong> will represent Great Britain with Huskisson also set to compete in the 5km event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tobias Robinson<\/strong> and <strong>Tim Shuttleworth<\/strong> will compete in the Men\u2019s 5km event and the team relay line-up will be decided closer to the events which are due to take place in Balatonf\u00fcred, Lake Balaton.<\/p>\n<p>Marathon Swimming Lead <strong>Bernie Dietzig<\/strong> commented: \u201cIt\u2019s one of the biggest teams we\u2019ve ever produced for a World Championships which is really encouraging. It\u2019s also a strong team which has clear medal chances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe build up to selection for these athletes has been good. Off the back of a slow start to the season, with not many races available, we\u2019ve just had an intense period of racing which has seen athletes compete in Abu Dhabi, the U.S. and France.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s exciting to see some new faces on the team such as Tobias and Tim. It will be a tough start to their international marathon careers but I\u2019m pretty confident. They have a strong distance pedigree and I\u2019m sure this will transfer to the marathon event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The team will finalize its preparations in Setubal, Portugal, on 24 June when they compete in a leg of the FINA Marathon World Cup.
