﻿{"id":260460,"date":"2017-06-13T04:12:27","date_gmt":"2017-06-13T11:12:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=260460"},"modified":"2017-06-13T04:12:27","modified_gmt":"2017-06-13T11:12:27","slug":"truman-state-adds-12-swimmers-for-2017-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/truman-state-adds-12-swimmers-for-2017-18\/","title":{"rendered":"Truman State Adds 12 Swimmers for 2017-18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KIRKSVILLE, Mo.<strong> &#8211; <\/strong>With the departure of 14 seniors including six men and eight women after the 2016-17 season, <strong>Ed Pretre<\/strong>\u00a0and the Truman State swimming program announced the signing of 12 student-athletes on Wednesday morning including six men and six women.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On the men&#8217;s side, this is an extremely talented and untapped class that has tremendous potential,&#8221; said coach Pretre. &#8220;The character of these young men will help us continue the tradition of excellence that Truman swimming stands for. Coach Simek and I are very excited to work with this group on a daily basis and watch them improve.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the women&#8217;s team, we filled in our major need with breastrokers and IMers that will help us score at conference and eventually compete at the national level,&#8221; said Pretre. &#8220;Having incoming breastrokers (Galluzzo, Hofer, Garrett, and Schranck) that range from 1:03 to 1:06 and 2:21 to 2:25 is exactly what we needed. Adding distance depth with Mensinger and Wilson will only make our distance group that much deeper on our team and within the conference.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Truman State Men&#8217;s Incoming Class<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Jack McKenzie \u2022 Fly\/Sprint Free \u2022 Tuscaloosa, Ala. \u2022 Tuscaloosa Academy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>High School:<\/strong> Swam for a club team and ran cross country while attending Tuscaloosa Academy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal: <\/strong>Son of Gwenn and Rick McKenzie &#8230; has two older sisters named Cora and Anna &#8230; plans to major in computer science.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Keegan Miller \u2022 Breast\/IM \u2022 Utica, Ill. \u2022 La Salle Peru Township<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>High School: <\/strong>Started and lettered all four years at La Salle Peru Township High School &#8230; became the school&#8217;s first swimmer to go to state in 40 years due to the team being discontinued &#8230; Sectional Champion in the 100 breastroke with IHSA state qualifying time &#8230; Conference Champion in the 100 breastroke &#8230; All-Conference recipient &#8230; also played football and ran track &#8230; member of the National Honor Society.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal: <\/strong>Son of Kerry and Julie Miller &#8230; has two older brothers named Justin and Josh &#8230; plans to major in nursing.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Jack McCormick \u2022 Sprint Free \u2022 Metamora, Ill. \u2022 Metamora Township<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>High School: <\/strong>Started and lettered for all four years &#8230; fastest times include 21.84 for the 50 free, 47.83 for the 100 free, 1:45.44 for the 200 free, and 52.9 for the 100 fly &#8230; named individual All-Conference twice for the 50 free and 100 free &#8230; school record holder in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal: <\/strong>Son of Mic and Kathy McCormick &#8230; has a younger sister named Brooke &#8230; plans to major in exercise science.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Austin Bell \u2022 Breast\/IM \u2022 Smithville, Mo. \u2022 Smithville<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>High School: <\/strong>Was a USA Club swimmer for 11 years &#8230; qualified for the Pro Am Classic Meet every year from 2012 through 2016 &#8230; qualified for the Sectional Championships (long and short courses) in 2015, 2016 and 2017 &#8230; academically, earned letters from 2013-17 and was a member of the Missouri All-Academic Team from 2013-17.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal: <\/strong>Son of Darren and Rebekah Bell &#8230; has a younger brother named Brady &#8230; plans to major in computer science.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Shane Williams \u2022 Sprint Free \u2022 Panama City, Fla. \u2022 A. Crawford Mosley<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>High School: <\/strong>Lettered and started all four years as a member of the swimming team &#8230; best times include 21.86 in the 50 free, 1:01.83 for the 100 breast and 48.72 for the 100 free &#8230; named All-District four times, All-Region four times, All-State three times, and All-County twice &#8230; earned academic letter and academic honors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal: <\/strong>Son Maria and Tim Williams &#8230; has an older brother named Lucas &#8230; plans to major in business.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Jake O&#8217;Bryan \u2022 Breast\/IM \u2022 Lee&#8217;s Summit, Mo. \u2022 Lee&#8217;s Summit North<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>High School: <\/strong>Swam, played basketball and ran cross country &#8230; in the pool, started for three years and lettered for two as his fastest times included 1:01.04 for the 100 breast and 52.25 for the 100 free &#8230; All-Conference in the 200 medley relay, two-time All-Conference in the 100 breast, All-State in the 200 medley relay, and a state qualifier in the 100 breast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal: <\/strong>Son of Tom and Debra O&#8217;Bryan &#8230; has two sisters (one older and one younger) and one brother (younger) named Lauren, Jenna and Ben, respectively &#8230; plans to major in engineering and physics.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Truman State Women&#8217;s Incoming Class<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Megan Mensinger \u2022 Distance Free \u2022 Hermantown, Minn. \u2022 Hermantown\u00a0\u2022 New York University <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>High School: <\/strong>Started and lettered for all four years &#8230; All-State twice, All-State academic twice and All-Conference four times &#8230; holds school records in the 200 and 500 free &#8230; named sectional swimmer of the year &#8230; achieved third place at state in the 500 free &#8230; in the classroom, finished with a 4.00 GPA, was at the top of her class and was on the honor roll all four year, and placed third at state as a sophomore in the 100 breast &#8230; holds school records for 100 breast and 200 IM &#8230; named All-Conference and Academic All-Conference &#8230; All-Conference performer as a cross country runner.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal: <\/strong>Daughter of Jennifer and Steve Galluzzo &#8230; has two younger sisters named Rachel and Sarah &#8230; plans to major in exercise science.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Ginny Schranck \u2022 Breast\/IM \u2022 Alton, Ill. \u2022 Marquette Catholic<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>High School: <\/strong>Swam and played volleyball &#8230; in the pool, started and lettered for all four years and her fastest times included 2:21.87 in the 200 breast, 1:06.92 in the 100 breast, 2:16.18 in the 200 IM, 4:46.48 in the 400 IM, and 1:03.88 in the 100 fly &#8230; five-time qualifier for the YMCA Nationals &#8230; five-year qualifier for the USA Sectionals &#8230; high school&#8217;s record holder for the 100 breast &#8230; member of the National Honor Society.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal: <\/strong>Daughter of Charles and Julia Schranck &#8230; has eight older brothers named Chas, Barry, James, Stephen, Andrew, Doug, Phillip, Central<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>High School: <\/strong>Started and lettered all four years in the pool &#8230; fastest times include 1:05.00 for the 100 breast, 2:25.75 for the 200 breast, 2:09.85 for the 200 IM, 4:46.95 for the 400 IM, 25.92 for the 50 free, 5:21.56 for the 500 free, and 11:11.23 for the 1000 free &#8230; All-State three times and All-Conference four times &#8230; holds the school&#8217;s 200 medley relay record &#8230; achieved first place in the conference in the 100 breast four times &#8230; holds the second-fastest school record in the 100 breast and third-fastest school record in the 200 IM &#8230; member of the Parkway Central Swimming Wall of Fame &#8230; member of the National Honor Society and the National Foreign Language Honor 16 All-State nods, 13 of which were honorable mention &#8230; two-time All-Metro &#8230; eight times, she achieved all eight state cuts including the 200 medley relay as a sophomore, junior and senior &#8230; holds the school record for 200 and 400 free relays &#8230; Park Hill South girls swimming has won 17-consecutive conference titles &#8230; member of the National Honor Society, won the George
