HOOVER High School racked up 188 points to claim the Alabama girls state championships, held Dec. 2nd-3rd. They narrowly defeated the teams from Grissom (171 points) and Homewood (160 points). Meanwhile, the boys of Bob Jones High tallied 300 points to run away with the boys&#39; championship title, ahead of Auburn (254 points) and McGill-Toolen Catholic (194 points). <\/p>\n<p>Briarwood Christian&#39;s Mallory Mathias walked away a double-event winner, claiming state titles in the 200 free (1:55.77) and 500 free (5:02.38). <\/p>\n<p>Angelica Chapman of Hoover also took home two state titles, posting times of 2:06.53 in the 200 IM and 55.77 in the 100 fly. Her time in the 100 fly established a new state record.<\/p>\n<p>Auburn&#39;s Megan Molnar also added her name to the Alabama state record books when she sprinted to victory in the 50 free in 23.09. She claimed her second title of the meet in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.15, just off her state-record prelim effort of 1:02.13. <\/p>\n<p>Others earning first place finishes were Huntsville&#39;s Valerie Nubbe  (100 free, 51.74), McGill-Toolen Catholic&#39;s Sarah Dominick (one-meter diving, 406.30 points) and Homewood&#39;s Genny Pittman (100 back, 55.67). Pittman&#39;s preliminary time of 55.29 broke the state record. <\/p>\n<p>Hoover earned victories in two out of the three relays to fuel their run to the girls&#39; team title. They touched first in the 200 free relay (1:39.70) and 400 free relay, where their time of 3:38.01 established a new state record. Homewood turned in the top time in the 200 medley relay in 1:50.85.<\/p>\n<p>On the boys&#39; side, Spain Park&#39;s Will Freeman earned two state titles, touching first in the 200 free (1:42.42) and 500 free (4:38.97). <\/p>\n<p>Tyler Kaliszak of Pope John Paul II High also posted two victories at the meet, as he swam to wins in the 200 IM (1:53.84) and 100 breast (55.83).<\/p>\n<p>Bob Jones High&#39;s Phil Deaton pulled off a quick double following the diving break, earning wins in the 100 free in 46.19 and the 100 back in 50.65.<\/p>\n<p>Other state champions crowned included Grissom&#39;s Tehuti Taylor (50 free, 21.17), McGill-Toolen Catholic&#39;s Will Glass (100 fly, 49.81) and Murphy&#39;s Robert Raley (one-meter diving, 520.35). Raley established a new state record on his way to winning the diving competition.<\/p>\n<p>Bob Jones High picked up two relay wins, touching first in the 200 free relay (1:27.90) and 400 free relay (3:13.29).
