Lessons with the Legends: Don Talbot<\/h2>\n

Swimming World<\/em>\u00a0continues a series in which top coaches share some of the secrets of their success. The June\u00a0issue of\u00a0Swimming World Magazine<\/em>\u00a0highlights the many accomplishments of Coach\u00a0Don Talbot<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Talbot began his love for swimming as an age grouper growing up in Australia, before continuing on to become a coach, motivator, technician, and author of\u00a0Swimming to Win For All Ages<\/em>. Coaching proved to be a successful venture for Talbot as he came trained World Record holders, Olympians, and Commonwealth champions.<\/p>\n

Some of Talbot’s most well-known athletes include\u00a0John<\/strong> and\u00a0Ilsa Konrads<\/strong>,\u00a0Ian O’Brien, Bob Windle, Kevin Berry,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Tracy Caulkins<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Talbot didn’t limit his coaching to Australia, however, spending time in Canada and the USA. While in Canada he was named executive director of Canadian Swimming and won Canadian Coach of the Year twice. Oft decorated, Talbot was inducted into the International Swim- ming Hall of Fame in 1979 and was made Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1981 and Officer of the Order of Australia in 2007. In 1990 he was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, received an Australian Sports Medal in 2000 and a Centenary Medal in 2001.<\/p>\n
