USA&#39;s Katie Hoff continued on the comeback trail with a successful outing in the women&#39;s 400 free at the FINA World Short Course Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Hoff checked in with a strong 3:57.07 for the win, crushing the meet record of 3:59.23 set by Kylie Palmer in 2008. She also trumped the ratified American record of 3:59.53 set by Lindsay Benko in Berlin in 2003.  Allison Schmitt, however, remains the fastest American in the event with a 3:55.89 set at the Duel in the Pool last December.  USA Swimming invalidated all techsuit swims taking place after its domestic ban of the techsuits in Oct. 2009, even though they were done legally under FINA rules up until the Jan. 1, 2010 worldwide ban. Hoff moved to fifth in the all-time rankings behind Joanne Jackson (3:54.92), Schmitt (3:55.89), Laure Manaudou (3:56.09) and Coralie Balmy (3:56.24).<\/p>\n<p>Palmer, meanwhile, grabbed second-place honors with a 3:58.39 to break her Australian record of 3:59.23 that had stood as the meet record until this evening. She jumped to seventh in the all-time rankings with the swim. <\/p>\n<p>Italy&#39;s Federica Pellegrini completed the podium with a third-place 3:59.52, just missing Alessia Filippi&#39;s Italian mark of 3:59.35 set in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#39;s Chloe Sutton (4:00.05), Balmy (4:00.14), China&#39;s Li Xuanxu (4:02.38), Spain&#39;s Erika Villaecija Garcia (4:02.69) and Spain&#39;s Patricia Castro Ortega (4:04.85) also vied for the title. <\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/magazines.swimmingworldmagazine.com:9997\/spipdf\/20101215wscd3f.pdf target=_blank>Day Three Finals Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lock in your Fantasy Swimming picks throughout the week as part of the World Short Course Championships festivities!
