The projected cost of the complex will be between $29 and $32 million. The proposal comes as a response to recent feedback to the city council about a lack of access to pools for both club and recreation swimmers in the city.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Currently, Palmerston North&#8217;s pools are overflowing,&#8221; said\u00a0Principal\u00a0<strong>David Oliver<\/strong>. The new complex would have a 50 x 25 meters wide, with space for 10 long course lanes. The pool would also have a movable floor to accommodate multiple uses, including swim lessons, water polo, canoe polo, and underwater hockey. There have also been calls from the community for a wider use of the space, including putting more resources toward learn to swim programming.<\/p>\n<p>There would be seating in the facility for at least 1,200 spectators, giving it the capacity to host national level events that could also bring some economic benefits to the region. While such a facility could have many benefits to the region, Board of Trustees\u00a0<strong>Robert Coulson\u00a0<\/strong>commented that funding will likely not happen without support on both the regional and national scale.
