Papua New Guinea Swimming Inc, with the cooperation of FINA through its development and educational programs and corporate sponsor Bank South Pacific, will be conducting a beginners-level FINA Water Polo clinic for coaches scheduled for Port Moresby from June 28 to July 2.<\/p>\n
The clinic will be at the same time as the FINA World Aquatics Day on July 1, where it is hoped a competition will take place. The competition will be at the Taurama Aquatic Centre in Port Moresby with the hopes it will draw more kids to the sport.<\/p>\n
Aleksandr Osadchuk<\/strong>, the high performance manager of the Water Polo program at Queensland Academy of Sport, has accepted the invitation from FINA to conduct the clinic in Port Moresby. Organizers of the event think it will be a good opportunity for PE teachers, coaches and technical officials to come together over the five day clinic to better understand water polo in a safe and fun aquatic environment.<\/p>\n \u201cI will be able to provide beginners coaching principles for water polo which include coaches role and responsibilities; child-safe practices; discovery learning techniques; training group management and delivery responsibilities; managing and using Parents in your coaching; think, act, play philosophy; basic rules and positions for water polo; and fundamental skills development sessions,\u201d Osadchuk said.<\/p>\n Water Polo has been growing in popularity in Papua New Guinea over the last few weeks, as classes have been offered on Saturday afternoons at the aquatic centre in Port Moresby, drawing in more people each session.
