USA\u2019s dominance of the FINA Women\u2019s Water Polo World League has come under close scrutiny since Tuesday June 6, when the Super Final kicked-off in Shanghai, China, for a six-day fierce tournament.<\/p>\n

The reigning Olympic champion holds all titles on offer at the elite level, but it is the FINA World League that it has a stranglehold on the most.<\/p>\n

Since the event\u2019s inception in 2004 there have been 13 Super Finals with USA winning an incredible 10, while also claiming one silver and one bronze.<\/p>\n

Team USA has won the last three Super Finals, consecutively.<\/p>\n

There was excitement aplenty on the opening day of the FINA Women\u2019s World League Super Final at the Match Natatorium yesterday (June 6).<\/p>\n

From the opening clash, which went to a penalty shootout \u2014 where seven attempts missed \u2014 before Canada won 11-10 over Hungary, to the power-packed 18-9 success for Russia over Japan, the tournament was starting on the right note.<\/p>\n

Reigning champion USA began strongly and finally overcame Netherlands 6-4 in the third encounter.<\/p>\n

With a nearly packed house, China then took on Australia in the final face-off and controlled from the start for an exciting 14-10 victory.<\/p>\n

Provisional ranking<\/strong> (after Day 1):<\/h3>\n

Group A:<\/strong> Russia 3, USA 3, Netherlands 0, Japan 0<\/p>\n

Group B:<\/strong> China 3, Canada 2, Hungary 1, Australia 0<\/p>\n

The tournament runs until Sunday June 11 when the semi-final and final will be held at 5:10pm and 6:30pm (local time) respectively.<\/p>\n

The Men\u2019s Super Final will be played in Ruza (RUS) from June 20-25.<\/p>\n
