{"id":259530,"date":"2017-06-07T03:58:32","date_gmt":"2017-06-07T10:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=259530"},"modified":"2017-06-07T04:01:24","modified_gmt":"2017-06-07T11:01:24","slug":"ellie-marks-takes-down-two-world-records-at-2017-jimi-flowers-classic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ellie-marks-takes-down-two-world-records-at-2017-jimi-flowers-classic\/","title":{"rendered":"Ellie Marks Breaks Two World Records at 2017 Jimi Flowers Classic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United States Paralympic Swimming community came together for the eighth year in a row to honor its late national team coach <strong>Jimi Flowers<\/strong> with the Jimi Flowers Classic held in Colorado Springs, Colo.<\/p>\n<p>The meet is named and held in honor of Flowers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/passages-u-s-paralympic-coach-jimi-flowers-47\/\" target=\"_blank\">who died in 2009 during a rock climbing accident<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the 2017 Jimi Flowers Classic hosted numerous talented para-swimmers, including Paralympic gold medalist <strong>Ellie Marks<\/strong>. It was formerly held by <strong>Lisa den Braber<\/strong> of the Netherlands since 2015.<\/p>\n<p>In the 50 breast, Marks clocked in at 40.79 for the SB7 World Record by .42 seconds. She set the previous record in January of last year.<\/p>\n<p>Marks also holds the 100 breast World Record at 1:28.13, set in Rio. She did not compete in this event in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>The Classic\u00a0also featured U.S. World Record holders <strong>Michelle Konkoly<\/strong> and <strong>Robert Griswold<\/strong>. Konkoly posted\u00a0a 29.12 50 meter free, 1:03.52 100 meter free and 34.82 50 meter fly all in the S9 category. Griswold raced to an S7 1:05.80 in the 100 back, 1:07.17 in the 100 fly, and a 2:17.51 200 free. The five-part Para Swimming World Series has already featured records from <strong>Alice Tai<\/strong> and <strong>Bethany Firth<\/strong> of Great Britain and\u00a0<strong>Arnost Petracek <\/strong>of the Czech Republic.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>All three records were set at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/three-world-records-fall-british-para-swimming-international-meet\/\" target=\"_blank\">third stop in Sheffield, Great Britain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The next stop of the series will be held in Indianapolis, IN USA. The meet will feature Marks along with other American para swimming stars from June 9-11.
