RALEIGH, North Carolina, December 10. NC State head swimming and diving coach Brooks Teal announced today the signing of eight student-athletes to the Wolfpack women's swimming program. Hannah Freyman, Kayla Grim, Nicole Haynes, Shelby Hoyt, Katelyn Linker, Susan Raichle, Ashley Reid and Siri Smits will all serve as true freshmen during the 2011-12 season.<\/p>\n
"We are extremely pleased to be adding these eight women to our program," said Teal. "Each brings talent, experience, ability, and the will to compete for us right away. This is a recruiting class that will definitely help our women's program continue to climb, and I'm very excited to see the impact they will have."<\/p>\n
Freyman, a native of Peoria, Ill., will provide depth for the Wolfpack in freestyle and backstroke events. An All-America selection in the 100 backstroke, Freyman qualified for both nationals and junior nationals. She competed with the Peoria Area Water Wizards club program.<\/p>\n
Grim, out of Allentown, Pa., is set to swim in backstroke and individual medley events at NC State. A four-time All-America selection, Grim qualified for junior nationals and competed for the Parkland Aquatic Club.<\/p>\n
Haynes won a state title last year in the 100 backstroke and has qualified for the junior nationals and the US Open. Hailing from Nokesville, Va., she has competed in backstroke events for the Curl Burke Swim Club.<\/p>\n
Hoyt, a product of Atlanta, Ga., will look to carve out a spot among the top freestyle specialists in the ACC. She placed second in the 500 freestyle at the high school state championships a year ago, and has qualified for both junior and senior nationals, as well as the US Open. She is a Scholastic All-America selection.<\/p>\n
Linker, from nearby Cary, will bolster both the butterfly and individual medley corps. Having competed for the Marlins of Raleigh swim club and qualified for junior nationals, Linkler is a two-time Scholastic All-America selection and a 2009 AP Scholar.<\/p>\n
Raichle, out of Charlotte, is a high school All-America selection and a three-time qualifier for both junior nationals and senior nationals. Specializing in breaststroke and individual medley swims, Raichle has competed with the SwimMAC Carolina club and is a two-time Scholar All-America selection.<\/p>\n
Reid, via Bradenton, Fla., placed second in the state championships this year in the 200 individual medley. A member of the Saint Petersburg Aquatics club, she has qualified for both junior and senior nationals and is a three-time academic All-America selection.<\/p>\n
Smits, from Berlin, Wis., is a state champion and state record holder in the 100 backstroke with a 55.83 time. A four-time junior and senior national qualifier, Smits has also qualified for the US Open and is a two-time Scholastic All-America selection. She has competed with the Oshkosh YMCA program.<\/p>\n
