STOCKHOLM, Sweden, December 5. THE final session of swimming at the Swedish Short Course Championships had Therese Alshammar turning in a pair of quality efforts.<\/p>\n
Alshammar crushed the meet record in the women's 100 fly with a top time of 55.57. She wiped out the 56.91 set by Sarah Sjostrom back in 2008, and just missed Alshammar's national record of 55.53 that is the top-ranked time this year. Petra Granlund took second in 57.85 to move to 13th in the world, while Martina Granstrom placed third in 58.40 for a top-25 effort.<\/p>\n
Alshammar doubled up in the women's 50 free with a winning 24.10. That swim just missed her fourth-ranked season best of 24.04 from the Beijing stop of the World Cup. Josefin Lillhage took second in 24.53 to move to 12th in the rankings, while Claire Hedenskog touched third in 24.75. <\/p>\n
Gabriella Fagundez cruised to victory in the women's 400 free with a 20th-ranked time of 4:05.28. Ida Marko-Varga snatched second in 4:09.39, while Rebecka Ekelund checked in with a third-place 4:09.54. <\/p>\n
Magdalena Kuras snared the women's 50 back title in 27.64. Sandra Hafstrom (28.62) and Natasha Sundin (28.66) made up the rest of the podium. Niklas Borin earned the men's 100 back crown in 53.80, while Kristian Kron touched just behind in 53.92. Konstantin Sundin wound up third in 54.42. <\/p>\n
Robin Andreasson topped the men's 200 free in 1:47.06. Oscar Ekstrom finished second in 1:48.27, while David Ernstsson garnered third in 1:48.44. Lars Frolander claimed the men's 50 fly in 23.48, while Pontus Flodqvist placed second in 23.91. Sebastien Holmberg wound up third in 24.09. <\/p>\n
Kron earned his second podium with a winning 4:19.03 in the men's 400 IM. Linus Karth garnered third in 4:20.40, while Martin Persson pocketed third in 4:25.50. <\/p>\n
Petter Stymne, Alexander Nystrom, Simon Sjodin and Peter Edvardsson won the men's 200 free relay in 1:28.72. Petra Granlund, Sara Thyden, Gabriella Fagundez and Josefin Lillhage captured the women's 400 medley relay in 3:57.88. Michelle Coleman topped the 100 back leadoffs with a 58.86 for her second-place team's 4:04.10.
