Tucson Ford's Mike Alexandrov lowered his American record in the men's 100 breast with a winning time of 51.35. That swim beat his American record of 51.56 set at the 2007 NCAA Division I Championships. Only Damir Dugonjic has been faster with the U.S. Open standard of 50.86 from the 2009 NCAA Division I Championships. Tucson Ford teammates Marcus Titus (51.90) and Clark Burckle (51.98) swept the podium. Titus moved to seventh all time, while Burckle is already eighth with a lifetime best of 51.89. <\/p>\n
USC's Katinka Hosszu cleared the meet record in the women's 400 IM with a winning time of 4:00.03. That effort pushed her to second all time in the event behind only Julia Smit (3:58.23). Hosszu jumped ahead of Dagny Knutson (4:00.62) and Katie Hoff (4:00.66). Smit wound up taking second in 4:03.55, while California's Caitlin Leverenz grabbed third in 4:05.04. <\/p>\n
Tucson Ford's Matt Grevers improved to third all time in the men's 100 back with a winning time of 44.82. Only Ryan Lochte (44.60) and Ben Hesen (44.72) placed second and third. California's David Russell finished second in 45.58, while SwimMAC's Nick Thoman snagged third in 46.34. <\/p>\n
Trojan's Jessica Hardy put up a blazing time of 58.41 in the women's 100 breast. That swim beat Rebecca Soni's meet record of 58.62 set last year, and moved Hardy up to sixth in the all-time rankings. Tucson Ford's Ann Chandler took second in 58.63, just off her second-ranked 58.06 from last year's NCAA Championships. Minnesota's Jillian Tyler rounded out the podium with a third-place 58.78. <\/p>\n
FAST's Robert Margalis dominated the men's 400 IM in 3:40.37, nearly clearing his ninth-ranked lifetime best of 3:39.92 from the 2003 NCAA Division I Championships. Tucson Ford's Jack Brown finished second in 3:46.94, while Peoria Area's Matthew Elliott picked up third in 3:47.28. <\/p>\n
USC's Lyndsay De Paul snared the women's 100 fly title in 51.46, improving upon her 14th-ranked lifetime best of 51.49 set during prelims. Stanford's Elaine Breeden finished second in 52.31, while California's Amanda Sims earned third in 52.40. <\/p>\n
