AUSTIN, Texas, December 2. THE first evening of short course yard racing concluded at the Texas Invite with a few NCAA A cuts including one particularly strong swim from Arizona's Cory Chitwood.<\/p>\n
Chitwood raced to an NCAA A cut in the men's 200 IM with a 1:43.47. That swim moved Chitwood up to 21st all time in the event. Teammate Austen Thompson took second in 1:44.83, while Longhorn Eric Shanteau finished third in 1:44.94.<\/p>\n
Arizona's Alyssa Anderson nearly set a personal best with a winning time of 4:37.94 in the women's 500 free. She just missed her 24th-ranked lifetime best of 4:37.87 from the 2009 NCAA Division I Championships, but finished with an NCAA A cut. Teammate Monica Drake placed second in 4:43.66, while UCLA's Lauren Hall finished third in 4:45.68.<\/p>\n
Texas' Jackson Wilcox topped the men's 500 free in 4:17.93, while Arizona's Matt Barber finished second in 4:19.57. Texas' James Robertson placed third in 4:21.52. Texas' Karlee Bispo knocked off teammate Laura Sogar, 1:57.36 to 1:57.96, in the women's 200 IM. UCLA's Lauren Hall earned her second podium with a third-place 1:58.50. <\/p>\n
Kathleen Hersey, swimming unattached, cruised to the women's 100 fly title in 52.30. UCLA's Yas Jahanshahi touched second in 52.94, while Arizona's Dana Christ snatched third in 52.95. Longhorn's Ricky Berens snagged the men's 100 fly title in 46.18, while Arizona's Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or (46.44) and Wisconsin's Daniel Lester (46.81) finished second and third.<\/p>\n
Arizona's Margo Geer captured the women's 50 free in 22.16, while Wisconsin's Maggie Meyer took second in 22.46. Arizona's Kait Flederbach wound up third in 22.49. Arizona's Adam Small raced to an NCAA A cut in the men's 50 free with a 19.32. Texas' Jimmy Feigen touched second in 19.67, while Longhorn's Garrett Weber-Gale finished third in 19.75. <\/p>\n
Texas' Kelsey Amundsen, Bethany Adams, Katie Riefenstahl and Karlee Bispo won the women's 200 free relay in 1:28.81. Arizona's Margo Geer, Kait Flederbach, Gracie Finnegan and Aubrey Peacock touched just behind in second in 1:28.87. Wisconsin's Beckie Thompson, Maggie Meyer, Ruby Martin and Laura Miller claimed third in 1:30.19. <\/p>\n
Arizona's Adam Small, Kelley Wyman, Mitchell Friedemann and Cam Owen turned in an NCAA A cut in the men's 200 free relay with a 1:17.66. Texas' Jimmy Feigen, Donald Sutton, Dax Hill and Charlie Moore finished second in 1:19.19. Sydney's Jonathon Newton, Sam McConnell, Dylan Curtis and Gordon Willis wound up third in 1:20.34. <\/p>\n
Texas' Lily Moldenhauer, Laura Sogar, Jessica Guro and Karlee Bispo won the women's 400 medley relay in 3:33.30. Arizona's Sarah Denninghoff, Ellyn Baumgardner, Dana Christ and Margo Geer finished second in 3:34.00. Wisconsin's Maggie Meyer, Karlyn Hougan, Ashley Wanland and Beckie Thompson took third in 3:34.31. <\/p>\n
Arizona's Cory Chitwood, Kevin Munsch, A.J. Tipton and Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or claimed the men's 400 medley relay title in 3:08.16, an NCAA A cut. Texas' Cole Cragin, Scott Spann, Neil Caskey and Jimmy Feigen placed second in 3:10.10. Arizona's Michael Sheppard, Carl Mickelson, Craig Jordens and Robert Iddiols made up the rest of the podium with a third-place 3:12.42.<\/p>\n
