The second day of the Speedo Grand Challenge went off from Irvine, California and the crowd saw some good in-season times at the unique meet.<\/p>\n

Vladimir Morozov<\/strong> started the morning session with a quick 22.35 to take the top seed for tonight. Morozov leads his Trojan Swim Club teammate Cristian Quintero<\/strong>, who won the 200 free last night. Quintero (23.10), Zach Apple<\/strong> (23.30) and Justin Lynch<\/strong> (23.42) will be in the four person final.<\/p>\n

In the men’s 400 IM, 15-year-old Kevin Vargas<\/strong> leads the qualifiers with a 4:28.93. Vargas had the fastest time by over three seconds over Cal’s Ken Takahashi<\/strong> (4:32.04). A pair of 18-year-olds will be the other two swimmers in the final as Texas commit JohnThomas Larson<\/strong> and Cal commit Trenton Julian<\/strong> will also swim in the final tonight.<\/p>\n

In the women’s 400 IM, Auburn senior Ashley Neidigh<\/strong> posted a strong swim with a 4:49.14 to lead the field by over seven seconds. Solie Laughlin<\/strong> was second at 4:56.24. 200 IM champ last night Riley Scott<\/strong> was third and Auburn’s Zoe Thatcher<\/strong> was fourth into tonight’s A-final.<\/p>\n

The men’s 100 butterfly final will be tight as\u00a0Auburn’s Luis Martinez<\/strong> posted the top time of the morning with a 53.51 ahead of USC’s Dylan Carter<\/strong> (53.87) and Cal’s Justin Lynch<\/strong> (54.29). Martinez is just off the meet record held by Milorad Cavic<\/strong> and Lynch from two years ago at 53.08.<\/p>\n
