According to NBC’s parent company, Comcast, the network will launch the Olympic Channel later this summer on cable and satellite. The network will go live on July 15 and will take the place of Universal HD as the ladder will cease operation.<\/p>\n

Comcast says that the Olympic Channel will be carried on Comcast’s Digital Preferred Tier and will also be carried on AT&T U-Verse and DirecTV. DirecTV already carries Universal HD on its HD extra package, but it is unlikely the Olympic Channel will be placed on that tier.<\/p>\n

Universal HD has carried various Olympic sports after the termination of Universal Sports in 2015, but will now be taken off the air after it aired repeats of various NBC programs and its affiliates like Bravo and USA Network.<\/p>\n

The Olympic Channel will launch on cable and satellite and will feature live winter and summer sports. NBC is hoping that viewers can pick up on and discover athletes on the lead-up to the games rather than only pay attention to them during the Games.
